Education and early life
Jericka studied at Aurora High School in her hometown, and was a member of the track and field team as well as their basketball team – she set five track and field records for the school, which are still held by her.
She matriculated in 2001 and then enrolled at Ohio University, Athens from which she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications in May 2005 – she served as the university track team captain, and in 2005 won The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Award for athletics.
Career as a reporter and correspondent
Jericka launched her career in the summer of 2005, when she began working for the WETM-TV station as a reporter.
She stayed with them for two years before switching to WIVB-TV, a CBS affiliated station in Buffalo – the New York State Broadcasters Association presented her with the Best Spot News Coverage award in 2007, while she won an Emmy award for the best morning show in 2008. Jericka moved to Philadelphia in Pennsylvania in 2010, to work for the KYW-TV station, and covered several important stories such as the basement kidnapping in 2011, known as the ‘basement of horror’ – for her coverage, she won an award from the Associated Press, and was nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award.
In 2012, the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists awarded her the title ‘Broadcast Journalist of the Year”. In 2013 Jericka started working for CBS News as a national correspondent – she has covered many important events, while her personal favorite is the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landing (D-Day) in 2014. Some of the other events include a harsh winter in Boston, the Washington Navy Yard Shooting, and the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.

Being threatened via text messages
TV producer Jeff Fager was accused by several women of sexual harassment ,and Jericka covered the story – he was fired from his job on the “60 Minutes” news magazine and TV program, where he worked as an executive producer in 2018. Jericka talked about Jeff in a show she hosted, and then received threatening text messages from him reading ‘Be careful. There are people who lost their jobs trying to harm me, and if you pass on these damaging claims without your own reporting to back them up that will become a serious problem.’ Jericka shared these messages with the public, and was supported by the Me Too movement as well as by the National Association of Black Journalists.
Jericka’s actions elicited support from many co-workers, such as Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King, and she was chosen to be the lead speaker at the Social Media and Reporting on Race event, organized by the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists.
