Richard ‘Rich’ Eisen was born in Brooklyn, New York City USA, on 24 June 1969 – his zodiac sign is Cancer, and he holds American nationality. He’s a journalist and TV show host, who’s probably known best for the work which he’s done for the American sports pay TV NFL Network, especially for being the host of “The Rich Eisen Show”. Early life and education
Rich was raised on Staten Island, New York City alongside his brother Jeff, by their father Joel Eisen who passed away in December 2019, and their mother Eveline Eisen; not a lot is known about Rich’s parents, as he respects their privacy, but it’s believed that his father was also a journalist, and that his mother was a high school teacher.
He became interested in sports journalism while attending a local high school, and although his father initially wanted him to become a sportsman, he still supported Rich’s passion for journalism. Upon matriculating in 1987, Rich enrolled at University of Michigan, and during his four years there was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, and edited the university’s weekly student newspaper “The Michigan Daily”.
Rich graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990, then continued his education at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1992, graduating with a Master of Science degree in journalism in 1994.
Rich’s career
Between 1990 and 1993, Rich worked at the daily newspaper “Staten Island Advance” as a staff writer, then the years 1993 and 1994 saw him write for the daily newspaper “Chicago Tribune”.
In the second half of 1994, Rich launched his career as a sports anchor and reporter when hired to work for the ABC-affiliated TV station KRCR, a job for which he had to move to Redding in California.
Rich stayed at KRCR until he was invited to join ESPN in 1996, and he and the late American sportscaster Stuart Orlando Scott formed a duo who became very popular, especially for Rich’s sense of humor and his impersonations of the late American sportscaster Skip Caray. During the seven years which he had spent at ESPN, Rich hosted the reality show “Beg, Borrow & Deal”, and also hosted “Major League Baseball”, as well as guest hostingd “The Dan Patrick Show” and “The Tony Kornheiser Show” on ESPN Radio.
During those years, Rich also occasionally worked at ABC, and hosted their show “Domino Day”.
In June 2003, he was hired to work as an on-air talent for the NFL Network, and was named the main host of the sports news show “NFL Total Access”. He signed a new contract with the network in 2010, and began hosting their show “NFL GameDay Morning”, which was also their first pre-game show.
The year 2010 also saw him start hosting his weekly “The Rich Eisen Podcast”, which was the first podcast to air on NFL.com. It’s still airing today, while Rich can also be seen hosting several of NFL Network’s Thursday Night Football pre-game, half-time and post-game shows, as well as the show “NFL GameDay Highlights”.
Other shows
On 24 June 2012, Rich’s reality show “The Great Escape” debuted on TNT, featuring three teams made up of two people who were locked into cells of a jail, and had to figure out how to escape; however, the show was cancelled in October 2012.
Between 2015 and 2017, he played a supporting character in the comedy series “The Odd Couple”.
Rich and the actress and model Rebecca Roijn hosted “The American Rescue Dog Show” in February 2018.
