3 hours, 49 minutes, 41 seconds. . Not a bad time for any marathon but a fantastic time for my very first. As I shot out of the gates, I felt the pure joy of being alive. Fully alive. What surprised me was the adrenaline and emotion starting the race with so many other runners. At first they were adversaries to be run past and beaten but eventually, as the miles crawled past 20 and runners gave up from the heat or exhaustion, those that were left became companions and I was happy to have their company. Of course it was hard, but it was also so fucking fun! It was my first but it won’t be my last. . Thank you to everyone who supported me, who donated, to my friends at St Jude’s, all the other St Jude’s Heroes, the city of San Diego and all the people who helped make the San Diego Rock ‘n Roll Marathon happen. . . . . . @stjude @ashaleo #sandiego #sandiegomarathon #runforareason #rocknrollmarathon #stjudeheroes #marathon #running #bob
