Sarah Nicole Blackwood was born in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, on 18 October 1980 – her zodiac sign is Libra, and she holds Canadian nationality. She is a singer and a songwriter, best known for being a member of the Walk off the Earth indie rock band which she joined in 2012.
Early life and education
Sarah was raised in Burlington by her father who is a car salesman, and her mother who is a professor at a local high school.
Sarah has an older sister named Jen Blackwood – also known as Hellcat – who is a musician and who motivated Sarah to launch her career as a singer as well, and a brother named Ian Blackwood, who is a musician as well but who moved out of the house at an early age, and is not very close with his family.
Sarah was bullied while attending elementary and high school, and so she became an advocate for anti-bullying initiatives, and for improving mental health services. She suffered from mild depression and anxiety during her teenage years and with the help of music eventually recovered.
Career as a musician
In 2007 at the age of 27, Sarah joined the Canadian psychobilly band called The Creepshow, after her sister who was singing in the band became pregnant and had to take time off. After Jen decided that she didn’t want to come back to the band, Sarah became their full-time member. She went on to become a solo singer, releasing her debut album entitled “Way Back Home” in 2008, while her first album with The Creepshow band entitled “Run For Your Life” was released a few months later. Her second solo album “Wasting Time” was released in 2010, as well as her second album with The Creepshow called “They All Fall Down”.
She left the band in 2012 after the Walk Off the Earth band of which she was already a member became popular worldwide. Walk of the Earth band was formed in 2006, and are mostly known for their cover songs, music videos, and a couple of their original songs. Sarah joined the band in 2011, and after they uploaded their cover of the “Somebody That I Used to Know” song originally performed by Gotye, the band became famous worldwide, with the video on YouTube currently counting over 187 million views.
At the request of the show’s fans, the band was invited to appear in “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on 23 January 2012, and they played live, five of them on a single guitar. They signed a contract with Columbia Records in February 2012, and their first original song called “Gang of Rhythm” was released in December 2012. Their first full-length album entitled “R.E.V.O.” was released on 19 March 2013, and after its success Sarah and the rest of the group toured across the US and Europe. One of the band’s main members Ryan Marshall left Walk off the Earth in January 2020.
In 2013, Sarah was featured in the “Lonesome Rider” song performed by the Volbeat heavy metal band from Denmark.
Love life and boyfriend
Sarah met Gianni Luminati when she joined the Walk Off the Earth band as he was already a member, and referred to as one of the most important members of the band. Aside from singing in Walk Off the Earth, he has created soundtracks for several movies and TV series during the years such as the “Sense8” TV series in 2016 and the “A Dog’s Purpose” film in 2017.
He is also an actor having appeared in “The Listener” TV series in 2013, “The Cocksure Lads Movie” in 2014, and the “Entertainment Tonight Canada” TV series in 2019.
The two began dating not long after Sarah joined, and they have been together for years now – she gave birth to their first son Giorgio Luminati in 2013, while Luigi Colombo Luminati followed on 25 July 2015. Sarah is a huge fan of outdoor activities such as running, cycling, or simply walking around the city, she enjoys spending her free time in nature, and practices yoga and meditates on a daily basis.
