Early life and education
Stephanie grew up in Plymouth, raised by her father who works as a dentist, and her mother who is an assistant principal.
She studied at a high school in Plymouth before enrolling at Wake Forest University in North Carolina, from which she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history in 1997, with a minor in communications. She continued her education at Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, and obtained her Juris Doctorate degree in the summer of 2008 – she passed her bar examinations in both New York and Connecticut in February 2009, and also became a licensed attorney in California in 2011.
Career as a lawyer and other ventures
She launched her career on TV in 1996 at the age of 21 when she started her internship in the “48 Hours” CBS News TV series – she joined the CBS News’ page program after obtaining her bachelor’s degree.
She began working as an associate producer at the “48 Hours” TV series but stayed for only less than a year before she started working for David Letterman, mostly helping him run his Indy car racing team as well as his philanthropic activities. She began being featured in the “Late Show with David Letterman” in 2002 when she appeared as David’s assistant – her performance in the show helped her appear in the Pop Candy’s 100 people of the Year list compiled by the “USA Today” magazine reaching #21. On 1 October 2009, David Letterman addressed the public stating an anonymous blackmailer was threatening to reveal that David was having sexual affairs with several women working for him – the blackmailer was later identified as Joe Halderman, the CBS TV producer who was also the ex-boyfriend of Stephanie. Due to these connections, it was believed that Stephanie was having a sexual affair with David as well – she was dating and living with Joe until August 2009 when she moved out of his house in Norwalk in Connecticut.
For trying to blackmail David, Joe was sentenced to six months in prison but was released after four months on 2 September 2010. There have been no public revelations of Stephanie seeing anyone since then.

Stephanie was physically very active while at high school, and played tennis, soccer and volleyball – she continued participating at sports at the university but eventually stopped due to a shortage of time. David has won many awards throughout the years, but is also the owner aor co-owner of several businesses. He has had several health problems,and was once threatened by Al-Qaeda after he made a joke on TV about the death of Ilyas Kashmiri, an Al-Qaeda leader who was killed in Pakistan in June 2011. David married Michelle Cook, his college sweetheart, in 1968, but divorced her in 1977. He married his second wife Regina Lasko on 19 March 2009 six years after she gave birth to their son. They are currently living together in North Salem, New York on an 108-acre estate.
