Nayyera Haq’s parents are Pakistani immigrants, who moved to the US in 1980 and settled on Staten Island, New York, where she was raised. Both of her parents were hired by the public service – her father worked as a teacher at a public school, while her mother was a scientist specializing in physics. She has a brother named Tom Kofie, who works as a medical doctor. She is a Muslim. Her nationality is American and her ethnicity is mixed.

Nayyera attended Stuyvesant High School, and upon matriculation enrolled into the University of Michigan to study History. Between 2004 and 2006, Nayyera worked for Congressman John Salazar as Director of Communications and Spokeswoman, during which stint Nayyera faced some problems due to her opinions on Muslims who live in the US. In 2014, she was promoted to the position of a Senior Director of Cabinet Affairs in the White House, helping them to carry out the President’s agenda on economic policy and national security.
