Early Life and Education: Growing Up in Ohio

Luke was born into the American family of Randy Grimes, a reverend in a Pentecostal Church; this form of evangelical Protestantism values baptism as a ritual, as well as purity of spirit. There is no information about his mother, Angie Baker. Luke has three older siblings. Given the fact that his family was very religious, he didn’t socialize much during his childhood, spending a lot of time at church camps. In an interview with Blag magazine, he said: ‘I was sheltered as a kid, so I quickly realized what I didn’t want to do and how I didn’t want to live. This helped me mature and get my priorities straight.’ Other than religion, his parents also put emphasis on education – an outstanding student, Luke matriculated from Dayton Christian High School in May 2002. Afterwards, he decided he wanted to be an actor; acting was a way of expression for Luke, so the logical solution was to move to New York City, where he enrolled at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts to study acting. In 2004, he graduated from the famous art conservatory, ready to conquer the industry.

Career Beginnings: All the Boys Love Mandy Lane and More

In 2006 Luke finally debuted on the silver screen, with the role of Jake in “All the Boys Love Mandy Lane” – the movie was critically acclaimed, and seen as one of the better titles in the horror genre. While Jake played a relatively important role, it took another movie for him to become more famous, and in 2007 he played the lead part in “War Eagle, Arkansas”, which allowed him to showcase his acting skills in a more demanding role. With the success of his first two parts, Luke then landed roles in “Assassination of a High School President” and “Shit Year”, before getting his first proper break. In “Brothers & Sisters”, he assumed the role of Ryan Lafferty in a total of 35 episodes, his first role in a major TV show, and recognised him as a proper star.

Continued Success: True Blood and Fifty Shades of Grey

After 2010, Luke was already an established actor, so he succeeded in continuing his streak of successful performances. “The Light in the Night” was followed by “Outlaw Country” and the hit action movie “96 Hours: Istanbul” – critics particularly loved his chemistry with Liam Neeson during the hostage crisis depicted in the film. Because of this quality performance, in 2013 he was cast as James Kent in six episodes of “True Blood”. A year later, Luke pleased everyone with his performance as Marc Lee in the hit movie “American Sniper”. In 2015, he may have had the biggest role in his career, playing the older brother of Elliot Grey in the erotic drama, “Fifty Shades of Grey”. 2016 was particularly busy, as he appeared in works such as “Manhattan Undying”, “The Magnificent Seven” and “Shangri-La Suite”.

Recent Works, Completing the “Fifty Shades” Trilogy, Yellowstone and More

Grimes was so successful in his portrayal of Elliot Grey that he was invited to reprise the role in the second and third movies of the trilogy, “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed”. In 2018, he was cast as Kayce Dutton in the hit TV series, “Yellowstone”. A year later, he starred in the thriller “Into the Ashes.”

One of his latest projects was “Happiness for Beginners,” which was completed in 2023.

Personal Life: Is Luke Grimes Gay? Does He Have a Girlfriend?

No, Luke Grimes is not gay; interestingly, this caused a lot of controversies, especially when there were rumours that he didn’t want to continue playing his character in “True Blood” because he had to shoot gay sex scenes. He has been in a relationship with Gillian Zinser since 2011. They were adept at guarding the privacy of their relationship, yet their solidarity was subtly showcased as they graced numerous awards shows together over the years, quietly bolstering each other. The precise timing and reasons behind their separation remain elusive, but their chapter concluded definitively in 2015.

According to nostalgic Instagram posts commemorating the event, Luke purportedly exchanged vows with Brazilian model Bianca Rodrigues Grimes on November 21, 2018. Their romantic journey is said to have commenced in 2016.

Residing in Montana, the backdrop of the famed “Yellowstone” series, Luke and Bianca have made their home. Although their family has yet to expand, they share their space with two charming Bengal cats, Buck and Zelda.

United not only in matrimony but also in their mutual appreciation for music, Luke and Bianca find harmony in their shared admiration for country artist Colter Wall. Luke divulged in a Rolling Stone interview his desire to pursue a music career, drawing inspiration from Wall’s melodies, which they often enjoy together.

Luke is an agnostic, and has stated on multiple occasions that he ‘doesn’t like organized religion’. When he’s not busy acting, Luke likes to play drums with his friends, who’ve formed an alternative country band together.

1I'm not really a fan of organized religion.
2I don't really invest too much in the future.
3It's really odd to be up close to an icon like Bruce Willis. You're used to seeing him on a screen, 50 feet tall. To think, 'Hmm, I'm taller than you are' is just weird.
