Amy Okuda is an American actress best known for her roles as Julia Sasaki on “Atypical” and ranger Tinkerballa in “The Guild”.

Early life and educational background

Amy Kei Okuda was born on the 6th of March 1989, in Torrance, California, USA. At the young age of five, Amy began playing basketball, but after suffering from a sports-related injury, she took up dancing classes to cope with the injury. She developed an interest in dancing and had an obvious talent in it, but to widen her career opportunities, she was advised to take up acting ,as well along with dancing. After her high school matriculation, she attended the University of California and graduated with a BA degree in Cinematic Arts, Film and Television Production.

She made her TV debut with “Californication” in 2007 alongside David Duchovny, followed by her first recurring role in the web series, “The Guild” that same year, appearing in 57 episodes her role as Tinkerballa, which became one of her most popular. In 2010, she starred in the short film based on the Spitzer Space Telescope entitled “Spaceship Spitzer: Bots of Both Worlds”, and continued guest-starring in television shows including “Bite Me”, “BFFs”, “The Middle” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, as well as in films such as “Elf Sabers”, “Chastity Bites” and “House Meeting”.

In 2015, she was cast in the second season of “How to Get Away with Murder” in the recurring role of Catherine Hapstall, appearing in 11 episodes that season. The next year she appeared in “Scream Queens” as Anna Plaisance, and in “The Good Place” as Jessica/Gayle.

Then in 2017, Amy was given one of the main roles in Netflix’s “Atypical”, as Julia Sasaki. Similarly, she appeared in a recurring role in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, and an episode of “MacGyver”, plus the films “The Sibling Code” and “So Close”. The actress is scheduled to appear in the film “Liked”.

Amy’s dance career began early on in her life, appearing in music videos and commercials as a dancer. She modelled for Verizon, American Express and Apple Laptops too, and did commercials for the Japanese soft drink, Suntory, Canon as well as Shoe Carnival. Additionally, she did some voice-over work for AT&T. She also appeared in a 2011 science fiction parody of Enrique Iglesias’ “Tonight I’m Lovin’ You”, entitled “Tonight I’m Frakking You”.

She announced the news of their engagement on her Instagram account, and on the 3rd of November 2018, the couple tied the knot in a private wedding ceremony.
