Early life, family, educational background

Mexican presenter, model and actress Sugey Abrego was born on 31 December 1978, in Veracruz, Mexico. Not much has been disclosed about her family or childhood, but she openly embraces her Hispanic ethnicity.

As a young adult, she attended classical dancing classes at the National Center for the Arts, and studied acting at Centro de Educaciόn Artίstica (Center of Artistic Education) of Televisa.

Her acting debut was in 2003 in the show, “Mujer, Casos de la Vida Real,” wherein she remained through 2004. In 2005 she appeared in the soap opera “Barrera de Amor,” “Sueῆos y Caramelos,” and “Como Dice el Dicho”, then in 2007 she appeared in “Destilando Amor” and “La Vecina.”

On 5 February 2008, she was cast in the Mexican anthology television drama series, “Las Estrellas”, created by Carlos Mercado Orduña and produced by Miguel Ángel Herros.

The series is allusive to the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe side of the Catholic religion, set in modern times and mostly based in Mexico City, with the location changing in a few episodes. That same year, she worked in “La rosa de Guadalupe” and later became a collaborator on “Matutino Express,” led by Esteban Arce.

In 2012, she was cast in the telenovela, “Un Refugio para el Amor,” starring Gabriel Soto and Zuria Vega, followed in 2013 by playing in two productions, “De Que to Quiero, te Quiero” and “Amores verdaderos.”

She’s also made appearances in other telenovelas and television series, such as “Until the End of Time,” “Guia para padres,” Mercado Central,” “Duelo de pasiones,” ”Tenίas que ser tú,” “Rebelde,” and “Esta Historia Me Suena.” She has also worked on broadcasts such as “Se vale” and “Muévete,” and in 2017 she appeared in the talk show “Noches con Platanito”, and began acting in the soap opera, “Enamoràndome de Ramόn.”

She does not have much on-stage acting experience, but did appear in the theatre play, “Los Monologos de la Vagina.”Alera Entertainment proudly represents her.

On the Mexican television station Canal, Sugey was their news show’s weather girl. In 2008, she became a host on “D poca,” produced by Martha Zabalete, and presented the weather in “Matutino Express.” In 2009, she left her job at “D poca” and became the host for “Arriesga TV.” She later hosted “TV de Noche,” but suffered from depression after the show was cancelled.

On 7 September 2016, she experienced a wardrobe malfunction while presenting the weather, live on the news. The video went viral and brought a lot of attention to Sugey.

She did not notice the fault at the time; and was only told about it after shooting ended for the day.

She has graced the cover of “Playboy” magazine in Mexico.

Her and Enrique Durán – her ex-husband – owned food trucks together, through which Sugey endorsed several brands including Donna Karan fragrances, and DKNY Stories, as of September 2018.

Personal life

In 2011 she married businessman Enrique Durán during a memorable and apparently beautiful ceremony.

Unfortunately, in 2015 she was threatened and robbed, and subsequently had to go onto anti-depressants to help keep her relaxed. She has said that her husband was her support during that time. Later that year, Sugey and her husband renewed their vows, but after five years of marriage, they were going to divorce in 2016 due to Sugey wanting to start a family with Enrique, which he didn’t want. They tried attending couples’ therapy but found it unhelpful.

Nonetheless, at the end of 2016, they decided to give their marriage another chance – she has outwardly spoken about the possibility of her becoming a single mother. Enrique was the founder and director of Motors Heaven Motorcycles, but he became bankrupt after the business fell apart.

After eight years of marriage, they separated in 2019. Sugey said that they have different life projects and future plans; they found that despite trying to make their marriage work, their lives were going in completely different directions.

In 2019, she also got candid about her emotional battles. After their split, she attempted suicide by attempting to jump off a terrace – thankfully, one of the cleaners pulled her to safety.

Hobbies, favorite things and interesting facts

She enjoys cycling, dancing and going to the cinema. Some of her favorite books are “Mal de Amores,” “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” “El Alquimista” and “Cien Aῆos de Soledad.”
