Early life and education
Bonner spent his childhood on a ranch between Gardendale and Odessa in Texas – it was there that he learned how to ride horses and eventually became a trainer. His father is Toya Bolton and his mother is Sally Bolton, while he hasn’t shared many details of them as he prefers to keep them away from the media’s attention – Bonner has two brothers named Brody and Bridger, and two sisters called Brylee and Bliss. The ranch he grew up on was in the family’s ownership since 1903; his father Toya was a professional rodeo cowboy for more than 14 years, and was the one who motivated Bonner to get into bull riding.
Bonner has been an avid bull rider since he was 14 years old. After he matriculated from high school, he won a bull riding scholarship and attended Odessa College, and later Texas Tech University.
Career of a model and a bull rider
Bonner officially launched his career of a bull rider after competing at the CBR tour which started in 2005 and ended in 2013. He was able to qualify and compete at the CBR world championship finals in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 but only managed to win it in 2007. He won the Las Vegas championship in 2011 and went on to win the Hobbs championship in 2013.
In 2015, Bonner won the Yakima event which was his second Velocity Tour win in the same year. He was ranked the 34th best bull rider in the entire world and therefore qualified for the Professional Bull Riding World Finals and finished fourth.
Bonner has had a chance to act in several movies as a stunt actor – he appeared in “The Longest Ride” movie in 2015 which is based on the Nicholas Sparks’ book. The main role of Luke is played by Scott Eastwood who is a professional bull rider, and Bonner was one of four other bull riders who served as stuntmen for the movie.
Bonner’s injury and end of his career
Bonner’s career of a professional bull rider was officially finished on 10 January 2016 at the Chicago Invitational event – he was holding first place on the leaderboards but as he was trying to dismount his bull, he mistimed it, was sent in the air, and landed straight on his head. The bull fighters saved him from being run over by his bull, but he was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a broken C-2 vertebrae – luckily for him, his spinal cord was intact.
The surgery he had to undergo went well, but he was stuck wearing a neck collar for several months – he has talked about the support he received during this tough time when he knew he was never going to compete at bull riding again. Bonner will have metal plate in his neck for the rest of his life, which could kill him if he suffers from the slightest head injury.
Career of a fashion model and other jobs
Bonner was signed to the IMG Models modelling agency on 19 May 2016, just several months after his nearly fatal accident. He has since become a sought-after male model, and has posed for the Saks Fifth Avenue luxury department store, and without his shirt for one of the Br4ss underwear campaigns. His latest achievement assignment was becoming ‘The Cosmo Guy’ in the issue of the “Cosmopolitan” magazine released in August.
Bonner also appeared in the “Dancing with the Stars” TV show in 2017 – he danced with Sharna Burgess, and the two were eliminated on 8 May 2017 taking fifth place.

Although he hasn’t talked about it, Bonner is rumored to be dating professional dancer Sharna Burgess whom he danced with in the “Dancing with the Stars” TV show. While the public felt the emotions between the two while they were dancing, both of them denied the rumors and stated that they were only dance partners, however, they will later upload pictures of them together on Valentine’s Day, while still not making their relationship official.
While they both still stated that they were just friends, Bonner announced in an interview with “E! News” in 2017 that he was planning on going out with Normani Kordei, another professional dancer who competed in the “Dancing with the Stars” TV show.
