Life and Career
Adelia is of English, Irish, and German descent, and the daughter of councilwoman and former beauty queen Nina Bruce in her marriage to former television host Nick Clooney, who worked primarily for AMC during his career. They were raised as Roman Catholic, and later settled in Augusta, Kentucky.
Aside from her father, many of their relatives were involved in the entertainment industry, which later pushed her brother George to the craft. Though she came from a reputable family, she chose to pursue a life far from the public eye. She began working as an accountant, and supported her family in the background. She grew close to George Clooney, and would later appear alongside him in red carpet events.
Adelia married and had a family of her own, eventually settling back where she grew up. Her husband served in the military, but passed away, leaving her with their two children.
During her free time, she does a bit of charity work, often alongside her brother who has made a lot of humanitarian efforts. Two of the organizations they’ve worked with are Not On Our Watch Project and Hope for Haiti Now.
Brother – George Clooney
George Clooney attended Augusta High School, and during his time there played for the school’s baseball and basketball teams. He initially envisioned himself as a professional baseball player, but was unsuccessful in his tryouts.
After matriculating, he enrolled at Northern Kentucky University, and then moved to the University of Cincinnati, but never completed his college education. He worked at various jobs before finding work in acting. He made his television debut in 1978, appearing mainly uncredited in several television projects. He continued over the next decade, and finally got his breakthrough when he became one of the main cast members of the medical show “ER” in 1994, playing the character Dr. Doug Ross. For his work with the show, he was twice nominations for an Emmy Award.
Thanks to that success, he started to get offers to play the leading role in mainstream films, and starred in “From Dusk ‘til Dawn” which is considered his breakthrough film. Other works he had during this period include “Out of Sight” and “Three Kings”.
George Clooney’s Continued Success
In 2001, George increased his exposure, fame, and income as he found success with his part in “Ocean’s Eleven”, which would later expand into a trilogy. He then started to do directing work, with projects such as “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind” and “Good Night, and Good Luck”.
He also had a role in the film “Syriana”, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. Other projects included “The Monuments Men”, “The Descendants” and “Michael Clayton”. In 2013, he won another Academy Award, this time for Best Picture for the film “Argo” which he produced. He now shares the record for most Oscar nominations in various categories, alongside Walt Disney.
Thanks to his work and influence, George was given an AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. He was also named as one of the most influential people in the world by “Time” magazine. He is a member of the United Nations Messengers of Peace, and is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a big human rights advocate, sharing most of his ideals with his wife, Amal Clooney.
Adelia married Norman Ziedler in 1987, and she adopted the name Adelia Clooney Ziedler; they have two children together. He was a military man, often traveling due to the nature of her work. While many in the military pass away while on duty, things were different for Norman, as he died in 2004 after suffering a heart attack.
Adelia hasn’t remarried, and has put her efforts towards her family and work. She resides in Augusta alongside her wider family, and still frequently connects with her brother, when they both have the time.
