Growing up in the vibrant coastal town of Newport Beach, Allison’s childhood was deeply intertwined with the energetic spirit of her parents, Allan and Cindy. Both avid sports enthusiasts, they instilled in her a profound love for athletics. Alongside her older brother, David, who himself excelled in gymnastics, Allison was immersed in a world where competition and passion for sports thrived within the family dynamic.

During her time at Newport Harbor High School, Allison ventured into gymnastics, initially drawn to pole vaulting. It didn’t take long for her natural talent to shine through, propelling her to become one of the most promising young vaulters in the United States. In 2004, she soared to victory, clinching the US title with a remarkable record of 3.81 meters (12 feet 6 inches).

Even at the age of 16, Allison set records that have stood the test of time, including her astounding vault of 4.11 meters in 2005. Despite facing setbacks, including two broken legs, Allison’s determination remained unyielding. She not only triumphed twice at the CIF California State Meet but also shattered her own record, reaching an impressive height of 4.14 meters.

Career of a model

At the beginning of 2007, Allison’s photos were uploaded onto a website on the internet, with the caption reading ‘Pole Vaulting is Sexy, Barely Legal’. The journalist who captured these photos wanted to sue Matt Ufford, the owner of the website onto which the pictures were uploaded, but it was late – the website was visited by thousands of people, and Allison’s pictures were being shared all around the internet.

As Allison became very popular on the internet, she was covered by some of the most respected US newspapers and magazines including “The Washington Post”, “Los Angeles Times”, and “The New York Times” while she was also talked about on the UK’s “BBC” channel, Australia’s “The Sydney Morning Herald” and “Der Spiegel” German newspapers.

Most of the media talked about Allison as an attractive and very successful athlete, while pointing out the danger the internet might hide.

Alisson wasn’t able to get a hold of the situation by herself and therefore hired a professional to take care of matters on the internet for her. Her father joined the professional but was mostly focused on finding stalkers and demented people on the internet so that he could report them to authorities.

Allison began attending photoshoots as a fitness model, but wasn’t happy about her modelling career as she wanted people to appreciate her for her career as an athlete and not because of her looks – as German reporters explained, ‘Allison became a sex symbol against her will’.

Allison’s career as a pole vaulter

After matriculating from high school at the age of 17, Alisson won an athletic scholarship and enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley to study sociology. She continued her great vaulting performances and broke the record held by a freshman with 4.11m.

She trained even harder and broke her own record during her second year, with 4.21m at a competition held in Sacramento. She attended several competitions but only got as far as eighth place – she won her All-American status during her final year eighth place during the NCAA Indoor Championships at Texas A&M (Allison jumped 4.1m).

After she graduated from college, Allison improved her personal best to 4.36m, however, she wasn’t performing to her best and wasn’t able to qualify for the London Olympics held in 2012.

Following her experiences in 2012 through 2015, which she perceived as challenges rather than failures, Allison redirected her focus towards her modeling endeavors. She found herself gracing the campaigns of renowned brands such as Nike, Athleta, and Uniqlo, embodying athleticism and grace in every shot.

In a collaboration with GoPro in 2015, Allison’s innovative spirit shone through as they affixed a camera to her pole. The resulting videos, showcasing her daring pole vaulting adventures, quickly captured the imagination of viewers worldwide, amassing over six million views on YouTube by 2016.

Allison is still competing in pole vaulting but hasn’t achieved any further notable results.

Love life and relationships

Allison is very secretive when it comes to her love life, which is a consequence of her internet fame which she did not want – she hasn’t talked about any men she might have dated before the man she is currently engaged to.

Allison met her other half Rickie Fowler sometime in 2015 at a party for popular athletes. Rickie Fowler is a professional golfer and was invited to join the party by his friend who later introduced him to Allison. The two seemed to be interested in one another and went on a date as soon as they both had some free time.

It appears that they are indeed a good match as they have been dating ever since, and even more – Rickie got on one knee in 2017 and asked Allison to marry him and her answer was positive.

The couple exchanged vows on the picturesque shores of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on 5 October 2019, embracing the tranquil beauty of a beachside wedding. They welcomed Maya Fowler, their daughter, into the world on 18 November 18th 2021. Likes and other interests

Alisson is still very keen on pole vaulting and spends most of her free time exercising and preparing for competitions, however, she still finds time for some of her other interests and hobbies.

Allison has become interested in golf thanks to her fiancé (or husband) as he is a professional golfer – he taught her how to play the popular sport, and she can also be seen attending most of his competitions. Alisson is a big traveler, and has been around the US, and a couple of countries in Europe – she mostly travels with Rickie, but sometimes goes alone.

She will always choose nature over big cities and crowds, and especially likes waterfalls and mountains. She enjoys paddleboarding but still prefers winter over summer, as skiing and snowboarding are things she prefers doing over all others.

Late at night, Allison likes to watch a good movie but the genre depends on her mood – she can watch a romantic comedy or a good action movie if she feels like it. Two of her favorite movies are “The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Johnny English”.
