Who is Bubba the Love Sponge?

Todd Alan Clem was born in Warsaw, Indiana USA, on 23 April 1966 – his zodiac sign is Taurus, and he holds American nationality. He’s a radio personality who became popular for one thing: being the host of “Bubba the Love Sponge Show”, which airs on the commercial AM radio station WWBA licensed to Largo, Florida.

Early life and education

Todd was raised in Warsaw alongside his sister Tara, by their father who was a factory worker, and their mother Jane Edmond who was the head of Warsaw city department, as well as a schoolbus driver. Todd’s parents divorced when he was around 10 years old, and he and his sister went on to live with their mother.

He was mostly interested in comedy and acting while attending Warsaw Community High School; Todd was a member of the school’s drama club and appeared in numerous plays performed there. Upon matriculating in 1984, he enrolled at Indiana State University wanting to become a dentist, however, his friend Larry Plummer talked him into becoming a radio host, claiming that it was the best profession for him, so Todd started working for the campus radio station WISU, and he dropped out of study while attending his second year.

Todd’s career

He began working as a bouncer at Jubilation nightclub in 1986, and there met radio DJ ‘Scary’ Kerry Gray; the two became friends, and Scary helped Todd perform under the nickname Rockin’ Bubba Clem for the radio station WPFR on 1 April 1986, as an April Fool’s Day joke.

Todd was soon promoted to hosting weekend shows and in only a year became the WPFR managing director. Following his departure from WPFR in 1988, Todd was hired by the radio station WGRD but was fired on 21 December 1988, after having made sexual remarks about a 13-year-old girl who had called into the show. The following year saw him work at the radio station KTFM, a job for which he had to move to San Antonio in Texas, and it was during his time there that he filed a federal trademark for the name ‘Bubba the Love Sponge’, through which he eventually became famous.

Between March and June 1990, Todd worked at the commercial radio station WIOQ in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the following year saw him host a late night radio show on WXXL in Orlando, Florida, averaging over 50,000 listeners.

Then between August 1991 and September 1992, he was a radio host on WLUM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Between September 1992 and 1996, he worked at WFLZ in Tampa, Florida and became somewhat famous amongst teenagers. He was paid $100,000 a year, and became a businessman by investing $50,000 into an alcohol-free nightclub, Sponges in Largo, Florida in 1994, while his second Sponges was opened in Spring Hill in the following year. At the clubs, Todd occasionally performed with his rap band Boyz Wit Da Bass, and he then opened his own dance club Bubba’s Beach Club in April 1996; he quit WFLZ four months later.

In December 1996, he became the host of a morning show airing on WXTB in Florida, and the following four years saw the station and its owners hit with various fines for Todd’s actions, including for when he discussed having sex with two lesbians, and when he had a woman talk to him live while she was masturbating. Todd was still loved by his fans, and conversely by 1999, he’d won four Billboard Personality of the Year Awards.

It was revealed in September 2005 that Todd was hired by American radio and TV personality Howard Stern to host the weekend afternoon show on his uncensored channel Howard 101 on Sirius Satellite Radio.

Between January 2008 and July 2019, Todd hosted his show “The Bone” on the radio station WFYV, and across the rest of Florida.

He began hosting “Bubba the Love Sponge Show” on 13 February 2017 on WWBA, after WBRN had dropped it; in January 2020, Seth Kushner became the show’s co-host, and he quit in February 2021.

Sex tape of Hulk Hogan

Todd had secretly filmed American TV personality and former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan having sex with his wife Heather Clem, and the American blog Gawker uploaded part of the video onto the internet on 4 October 2012.

Hulk firstly sued Todd and then Gawker; he won $140 million in his Gawker lawsuit, and another $31 million in his lawsuit against Todd.

Love life and wife

Todd prefers not to speak about his first wife, and hasn’t shared her name nor profession with his fans. He has explained that they married around the time when he started working on his way up in radio, and that she wanted him to stay at home in Terre Haute, Indiana while he wanted to travel. The marriage lasted only three months.

He married his second wife, the American fitness coach Heather Cole in January 2007, in a private ceremony at the First Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida; they divorced in March 2011.

Todd also has a son Tyler from a former relationship, but hasn’t revealed the name of the boy’s mother.

Between 2012 and February 2017, he was in a relationship with Nicole L’Ange.

As of April 2022, Todd appears to be single, has been married twice, and has a son from a previous relationship.
