Who was John Gotti?
John Joseph Gotti was born in The Bronx, New York City USA, on 27 October 1940 – his zodiac sign was Scorpio and he held American nationality. Of Italian-American descent, John was a gangster who became the head of the Gambino crime family, operating in New York City.
John was born to parents who were originally from San Giueseppe Vesuviano, a commune in Naples, Italy – his father John Joseph Gotti Sr. and mother Philomena had 12 more children besides John, with five of the boys becoming part of the Gambino crime family.
John studied at the Franklin K. Lane High School, but was kicked out for bullying other children, and for being absent most of the time – his father was a gambler who was barely capable of providing food for the family, which is why John hated him.
John became part of his first gang at the age of 12, and at the age of 16 made friends with several boys who would later join the Gambino family – he first started working for Carmine Fatico who was a capo, captain in the family.
John was arrested in February 1968 for stealing from United Airlines, and then once again for stealing $50,000 worth of cigarettes while he was out on bail – he spent less than three years in jail for United Airlines hijacking, while the charges for stealing cigarettes were dropped.
He became a capo in the Gambino family in 1972, and was sentenced to four years in jail in June 1974 after killing McBratney, a man who killed a nephew of the Gambino family’s boss Carlo Gambino.
After the new Gambino family’s boss Paul Castellano ended up in prison in 1984, John was chosen to serve as the family’s boss – he made a plan to assassinate the boss after he was released from prison on 16 December 1985, and he was declared the new boss at a meeting which 20 capos attended on 15 January 1986 – John chose Frank DeCicco as the underboss, and Gallo as his consigliere (advisor and lawyer).
