Patrice is a legal counsel in her own right, but is probably best known as the wife of lawyer and the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director, James Comey. There were certain rumors about the couple divorcing, however, it all turned out to be fake news!
The Comeys have a combined net worth estimated at over $12 million, as of mid-2024, $1 million to Patrice.
Relationship Status
Patrice has been married to James Comey since 1987 – they first met in 1978 when studying at college, and started dating a couple of years later, which continued for eight years while they completed their studies and established their careers. The couple has five children – sadly, one of their sons died in infancy. Speaking about that event, James said that it helped him learn to find something good after bad things happen. The couple also served as foster parents.
Their oldest child, a daughter named Maurene, has been under the spotlight for her work in the legal field, but we will talk about that in the following paragraphs.
Early Life and Career
Patrice was a student of college of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia, attaining a degree in 1982. She continued her education earning a master’s degree in counseling, afterwards spent some time in several legal firms, and as of the most recent past, she began serving as a special advocate in the Juvenile Court.
However, despite her talent, hard work and notable work ethics, Failor attracted more attention when her husband James, a former head of the FBI, was dismissed by President Trump in 2017. When it comes to the importance of their relationship, James has been quoted as saying that ’nearly all he is and has done in his adult life is due to the great fortune of marrying his wife Patrice.’
Husband James Wiki
Born on 14 December 1960, James Brien Comey Jr. is a lawyer, but best known as the former director of the FBI, serving in that position from 2013 to 2017, when he was fired by Donald Trump.
Comey’s political views have been the subject of several discussions – he was a Republican, but over the year, changed his views and now prefers being unaffiliated. In 2002, Comey began serving as the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, remaining in that position in the following year. In 2003, he became the US Deputy Attorney General under President George W. Bush, but in mid-2005 he left the Department of Justice and became a senior vice president of Lockheed Martin.

In 2010, he began working as general counsel at Bridgewater Associates, situated in Westport, Connecticut.
Hillary Clinton Investigation
Working at the FBI, Comey had a prominent role in numerous investigations of alleged scandals, such as of Hillary Clinton’s use of private email server, reportedly while working as Secretary of State. Under his supervision, the FBI agents interviewed Clinton, but came to conclusion that she wasn’t involved in any criminal or illegal behavior. The mentioned decision cost Comey his position, as it wasn’t to the liking of the President.
Other Investigations
In 2017, it was announced that the Department of Justice would conduct an investigation regarding Clinton, to make sure that the procedures were followed. In late July of the same year, the House Judiciary Committee requested documents related to Comey, which included those about the Clinton investigation. The Republicans of the committee requested another special prosecutor from Attorney General Jeff Sessions, believing that someone else might have done a better job than Comey.
In September, Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham stated that Comey wanted to exonerate Clinton in her scandal even before the FBI completed the investigation. The rumor was subsequently confirmed by the FBI. “You tend to reach final conclusions as the investigation is logically ended. Not months before”, Ron Hosko said about the event and Donald Trump called it “disgraceful”. Many politicians and journalists agreed that Comey’s dismissal was deserved.
Dismissal
In May 2017, James was officially dismissed, only four years into his 10-year contract as the Director of the FBI.
Reportedly, James learned about that on TV news reports while delivering a speech to the Los Angeles Field Office agents and, as sources claimed, he was taken aback by Trump’s decision. Comey then returned to Washington and had to cancel his speech for that evening. Afterwards, The White House stated that the firing was recommended by the US Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his Deputy Rod Rosenstein. In the following period, it was revealed that Trump wanted a written case against James.
As stated, another reason for Comey’s dismissal was the fact that he “wasn’t doing a good job”, and Sarah Huckabee, the White House Press Secretary, said that the FBI “had lost faith in Comey”.
Daughter Maurene Comey
In addition to being a daughter of Comey and Failor, Maurene attracted attention when she became the lead prosecutor in the case against Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of being involved in sex-trafficking. Maurene was a student of The College of William and Mary and then attended Harvard Law School, following the footsteps of her parents. Besides being fulfilled career-wise, Maurene is also apparently happy in her private life –she is married to Assistant US Attorney Lucas Issacharoff.
