Born Erin Isabelle Burnett on the 2nd July 1976, in Mardela Springs, Maryland USA, of Irish and Scottish ancestry, and is the daughter of Kenneth King Burnett and his wife, Esther Margaret. Erin has an older sister. She went to the private St. Andrew’s School, a preparatory boarding school located in Middletown, Delaware. Erin finished high school in 1994, after which she enrolled at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in political economy.
During her university years, Erin excelled in sports, having played lacrosse and field hockey.
Following her graduation, Erin became a financial analyst for Goldman Sachs. She was in the investment banking division, and her task was overseeing mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance.
