Melissa became interested in acting at the age of six, when she started watching TV series with her mother, which led to her becoming a member of her elementary school’s drama club. She attended a high school in New York, and after matriculation moved to Atlanta, Georgia enrolling at Georgia State University and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1994. While at college, she had a short-lived venture into the modelling industry, but eventually stopped to focus on becoming a famous actress.

Melissa made her debut film appearance in 1999 portraying Mona in “Atlanta Blue”, and then in 2000 appeared in “The Buse” short film.

The year 2002 saw her star as Elena Rodriguez in “The Greenskeeper” comedy horror film which follows an assistant greenskeeper who invites his friends for a country club birthday party, at which a killer dressed as a greenskeeper kills people with golf clubs. In the same year, she appeared in two short films entitled “White Bitch Down” and “Petunia” and went on to appear in several other short movies throughout the years such as “The $100 Short Short”, “Love Hurts”, and “The Tedious Existence of Terrell B.
