Bruno Massel was born in Elmhurst, Illinois USA, on 23 May 1974, so under the zodiac sign of Gemini and holding American nationality – he came into the spotlight after being cast to appear in the “Garage Squad” reality TV show.
Education and childhood
Bruno spent his entire childhood in Elmhurst together with his parents – Bruno Massel Senior and Roz C. Massel – he is the only male among his siblings as he has three sisters named Debi, Jackie and Suzy. His father is a veteran of drag racing as he has won numerous championships over the years, while he is also an entrepreneur and an inventor.
Bruno grew up being interested in cars and fascinated by the car races he would watch with his father on TV – he developed a special passion towards drag racing thanks to his father, and promised to himself he would become a professional race driver someday. He studied at the York High School in Elmhurst, and was somewhat popular there thanks to his attractive looks and the fact that he was part of the school’s football team – after matriculation, he enrolled at the University of Iowa, and graduated in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing.
Career of a racer and a TV personality
After graduating Bruno wanted to study law, and gave it a try, but soon changed his mind and quit, after being noticed by a modelling agent, and launching his career of a model in 1997. He was mostly posing for the Ford car company, and although his parents were not happy about his new job, Bruno did not mind their dissatisfaction, and he went on to travel all around the US and around Europe, as the job required it.
Bruno becoming part of the drag racing industry was rather a coincidence than a plan – his father ended up in hospital and had to undergo surgery, which was successful, but he had to spend some time recovering, so Bruno went on to take over the family business, becoming a part of the racing world.
He began racing in the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) national tour in his father’s Top Dragster car, which was able to reach 200 mph in less than six seconds. He was racing and modelling at the same time, but then decided to test his skills on TV as well, and went on to serve as a TV commentator for the “TNN” and “SPEED” racing shows. After being noticed on TV, he was invited to appear in several shows airing on ESPN and the Discovery Channel. He switched from IHRA to the National Hot Rod Associatio,n (NHRA) and continued participating for the next 10 years, becoming the NHRA World Champion two times.
He is still actively racing, and has four drag cars – he also still works for the Fox Sports network as a commentator. Bruno gained a lot of recognition after he began hosting the “Garage Squad” show, which revolves around people obtaining old dusty and/or rusty vintage cars, and then performing a complete renovation of them.
Bruno’s car crash
Bruno was involved in a car crash in 2010 shortly after winning a race – the round had already finished when he crashed his car, but although it appeared to be very serious, Bruno ended up having only a concussion.

Bruno met Dayna Purgatorio Massel while the two were attending the same high school. They started off as friends and began dating after two months – they didn’t rush to marry, and were together for around 10 years before exchanging their wedding vows on 28 December 2002. The ceremony was held in private, with Bruno and Dayna invited only their closest friends and family. They are now parents to two sons while their dates of births and names are not known.
The family seems to be living a happy life together, and there are no rumors nor controversies surrounding them. As Bruno hasn’t talked about any other woman he might have been with before Dayna, she appears to be his first and only love.

He still stays fit, and can therefore often be seen training in a local gym – besides that, he is also a practitioner of martial arts and occasionally plays football, baseball and basketball with his friends, while he is also good at racquetball and tennis.
Bruno is also very interested in the film industry, as he once wanted to become a part of it as well, but hasn’t been given a chance so far – two of his favorite movies are “The Godfather I” and “Pulp Fiction”, while his favorite TV series is “Third Rock from the Sun”.
