Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey is the eldest of three daughters born to a Spanish father and a French-American mother. She has both Spanish and French nationality, and so belongs to a mixed ethnic group. Her parents divorced when she was two years old, then at the age of five, she moved with her father to Paris, France, then to settle in a small town near La Rochelle. While she was growing up there, Àstrid developed her love for acting, and performed in various school productions. She later moved with her father to the Dominican Republic, and there worked for five years as a waitress.

Àstrid returned to Paris at the age of 17, and there started working as a practitioner in osteopathy, but soon moved her focus to modeling and acting, improving her skills at a drama school. Àstrid speaks Spanish, Catalan, French, English, and Italian.
