Who is Angus McLaren?

Angus McLaren is an American actor, who is probably best known to the world as Nathan Rafter in the Australian comedy-drama series “Packed to the Rafters” (2008-2013), and most recently as Lance Salisbury in the TV series “Home and Away” (2018-2019), in addition to other projects on which he has worked so far in his career.

He spent his childhood on a dairy farm near Loch, with his two brothers Rhett and Aidan, and became interested in performing arts from an early age, and would start his career at the young age of 12. He went to Mary Mackillop College Leongatha, where he was a part of the Leongatha Lyric Theatre. He would later study for a Bachelor of Acting at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in Perth, Western Australia.

Career Beginnings

Angus’ career started by chance in 2000 with the part of Jason Cassidy in the TV series “Something in the Air”.

With no prior experience, Angus auditioned for the role, and from 2000 to 2001 appeared in seven episodes of the award-winning drama series. In 2002, Angus took another step forward with the part of Jamie Clarke in the long-running soap opera “Neighbours”, while two years later he played Degenhardt Bell in 26 episodes of the TV sci-fi series “Silversun”.

Rise to Prominence

It was in 2006 that he was cast in the role that gave him the boost he needed; Angus began portraying Lewis in the TV fantasy drama series “H20: Just Add Water” (2006-2010), eventually starring in 66 episodes of the award-winning series.

Concurrently his next big project came in 2008, when he was selected for the role of Nathan Rafter which celebrated him as an actor and made him an Australian star. He appeared in 102 episodes of the “Packed to the Rafters” series from 2008 until 2013, increasing his popularity and wealth as well.

Following the end of the series, Angus attended acting classes in New York, Melbourne, Sydney, Los Angeles and also attended the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, before continuing his career.

He returned to screen in 2016 with the role of William Graham in the short film “Quartermaine”, and in 2017 got the part of Dr. Toke in the TV comedy-drama series “Doctor Doctor”.

Continual Success

He was very busy in 2017, as he also played Pat in the TV comedy series “600 Bottles of Wine”, and then continued with film roles, first as Carpet Burn in the comedy-drama film “The Merger”, starring Damian Callinan who also wrote the film, Kate Mulvany, and John Howard, and then portraying Eddie in the historical thriller-drama film “Hotel Mumbai”, with Dev Patel, Armie Hammer and Nazanin Boniadi in the lead roles.

Furthermore, Angus joined another long-running soap opera, “Home and Away” in 2018, and has appeared in 18 episodes so far. In 2019 he starred in the romantic comedy film “The Naked Wanderer”, alongside John Cleese and Natasha Liu Bordizzo., and he is now working on the spin-off series of “Packed up to the Rafters”, entitled “Back to the Rafters”, in which he will reprise the role of Nathan Rafter; the series is scheduled for its premiere late in 2020.

Angus has a rich history when it comes to his dating life; back in 2009, he started dating famous actress Indiana Evans, which lasted until 2012 when they broke-up.

For several years, Angus wasn’t sharing anything about his personal affairs, but then in 2017, Angus started a romance with another actress, Anneliese Apps. Anneliese has just recently started her career, and in 2017 she portrayed Elizabeth Ellis in the TV series “Home and Away”, and in 2019, she was in the sport drama film “Ride Like a Girl” as Brigid Payne, in the biopic about Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup.

Angus in addition to acting, has also pursued music; he has been involved with several bands, including the indie rock band, Rapids, in which he played drums, and Bogey Lowenstein, for which he was a bass player.

Angus has recently started giving acting lessons at The Hub Studio in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
