Sarah grew up being interested in designing clothes and furniture, and after she matriculated from high school, enrolled at Newcastle University in the north-east of England, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in interior design in 1993. As soon as she graduated, she was given an opportunity to start singing in a local band, and after trying it decided to dedicate her time to a career in music rather than to stay in the field of interior design.
Career as a singer and a recording artist
In 1992, the band The Joans was formed by Steve Hillier and Chris Wilkie in Newcastle, and Sarah join them as their vocalist.
The band then changed the name to Dubstar in 1994, signing a deal with Iabel, Food Records releasing their critically acclaimed debut album entitled “Disgraceful” in 1995. By January 1996, Dubstar was ranked among the top 20 on the UK Singles Chart with their “Not So Maniac Now” song, which was followed by their next hit “Stars”. Their second album entitled “Goodbye” was released on Polydor Records in 1998, and their third album “Make It Better” in 2000. However, after facing several problems caused by misunderstandings between some of the band members, they split, but came back for a short period of time in 2004 to work on their ‘best of’ compilation.
Sarah went on to release her first solo album in 2008, entitled “Acoustic at the Club Bar & Dining”, which included cover songs of famous bands such as The Smiths and New Order. Since 2018 when some of the band members reunited, Dubstar has consisted only of Chris Wilkie, the band’s guitarist, and Sarah, and on 1 June 2018 they released their new single “Waltz no. 9”, which is available for listening on the internet. The song was one of several included in their “One” album released on 12 October 2018.
In 2002, Sarah joined the Technique band to replace Xan Tyler, who quit right before the band was supposed to go on a tour. Kate Holmes, a member of the Technique, began collaborating with Sarah and the two agreed to write together and to form a new electronic music band called Client. The band is mostly popular in Germany where they have had commercial success, and have collaborated with many high-profile directors and musicians such as Pete Doherty of The Libertines, Martin L. Gore of Depeche Mode, and Tim Burgess of The Charlatans.
Sarah was a member of the band until December 2010 when not long after the release of the band’s cover song of “I’m in Love with a German Film Star”, she decided to quit Client. Sarah was replaced by Nicole Thomas who became known as Client N and the band released their fifth studio album entitled “Authority” on 21 March 2014 while signed to Out of Line Music.
Love life and relationships
Sarah began dating a man she met while attending her final year at college, and the two moved together to Newcastle with the aim of forming a band.
He was the one who helped her connect with Steve and Chris from Dubstar, and the two dated for several years before they split sometime in 2017 – Sarah was apparently having an affair with a member of the Dubstar band. In 2019, rumors began circulating the internet that Sarah found new love after she was seen spending time with a mysterious man in a nightclub in Newcastle – many of her fans have asked her about the man on her social media accounts, however, Sarah hasn’t commented on her current relationship status, and she appears to single.
