Early Life and Career Beginnings

Charlize is of African-American, French, Irish, Indian, Bulgarian, and Portuguese descent, the daughter of a competitive gymnast turned bodybuilder, Charles, and her mother Leah, though her parents separated when she was young, so she was predominantly raised by her mother. She showed a strong interest towards dancing from a young age, and was encouraged to pursue her craft. Growing up, she maintained a close connection to her father, though cites her mother as an inspiration.

Charlize began taking dance classes at two years of age, and four years later she made her on-screen debut, appearing in an episode of “America’s Got Talent”; the TV show competition attracts participants from all around the world, who possess some form of talent, ranging from singing, dancing, magic, stunts, and many more, trying to compete to eventually secure a place in the finals of the competition. She then worked on several Nickelodeon programs, in mainly uncredited roles as she was a dancer; these include “The Fresh Beat Band”, and “Keeping It Green”.

Other Appearances and 8 Flavahz

In 2011, Glass made uncredited appearances in “So You Think You Can Dance”, “The Voice”, and the “MTV Video Music Awards” performing as a dancer. During the same year, she met other dancers at a convention in Los Angeles, mainly former members of a group called the Flavahs Crew. This led to her joining a new native group mixing the former Hawaiian group with Californian dancers so that they could compete at the “World of Dance” competition held in Hawaii; this is the largest dance entertainment enterprise, holding competitions in over 25 countries, including the NBC “World of Dance” television show.

The group competed under the name Flavahs and Friends, achieving third place in the competition. Several of their members also won the competition under a different name, and the group then rebranded, becoming 8 Flavahz. Before Glass was a part of the group, they had auditioned during the sixth season of “America’s Best Dance Crew” but was unsuccessful. The following year, they returned with new members and fared much better, succeeding in the auditions which lead to them becoming a part of the competition.

America’s Best Dance Crew and Recent Work

America’s Best Dance Crew” is a dance reality series featuring national and international dance groups, produced by Randy Jackson and hosted by actor Mario Lopez. Since then, the group has danced as a part of music videos of several popular artists, including Juicy J, Willow Smith, Mindless Behaviour, and Justin Bieber. In 2012, Charlize appeared as a guest in an episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” before working on an episode of “Maury”. She also performed alongside Zendaya in an episode of “Dancing with the Stars” of the following year, then also made her acting debut in the short film entitled “Playground Politix”.
