Who is Nick Blood?

Born under the water sign of Pisces on 20 March 1982, in Aylesbury, England, Nick Blood is now an actor, creative director and entrepreneur. Immersed in the art form of acting since his pre-teens, he’s become one of the most influential and most regarded British actors of this generation. Adept at performing both on stage and in front of cameras, Nick achieved global fame by assuming the role of Lance Hunter in the massively popular show “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Aside from a multitude of roles in British and American shows, Blood also attracted attention by creating “Good, Best, Better”, a series of independent short movies. Not only is he the founder of the brand, but we’ll also see his acting and directing talents on display rather soon.

Early Life and Education: Growing Up in England

Nick was raised in his birthplace by parents of still unknown names and professions. Despite being a famous actor, he has somehow always avoided revealing anything about his family and early life. On numerous occasions, reporters have inquired about his personal life, but Blood managed to sway the conversation in another direction every time. However, we do know that he developed an interest in acting at a very young age. Together with his father, he would enjoy watching movies and later discussing them. At the age of seven, he joined a local drama club and began working on his craft. As for his education, he first attended Wingrave Church of England School before transferring to Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School.

Upon matriculating in 2000, he attended the renowned London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) – even though he  stood out amongst some of the best actors in his class, he still wasn’t sure about which career path to pursue. He knew that a future in art was his destiny, but the problem was – which art form should he choose?

Career Beginnings: Music and Breaking Through

Once you see that Nick’s first acting credit was a small role in 2009, it becomes obvious that he had some second thoughts about acting. Allegedly, he wanted to become a musician at some point in his early-to-mid-20s; rock was his favorite genre, but he failed to make an impact on the global music scene. For a short while, he was also the manager of a local electro-rock band, but after realizing that music was just not for him, Blood became hellbent on making a splash as an actor, and so he did. In 2009, he made his official debut in two episodes of “The Bill”, the legendary British cop drama which ran for over 25 years and 2400+ episodes.

Working with seasoned actors such as Simon Rouse and Graham Cole encouraged him to push onwards. The next year he landed a recurring role for the first time – as Alex in “Material Girl”, Nick showcased his full skill set, and so earned parts in “Stanley Park”, “Combat Kids” and “Misfits”., and while these were fine performances by Blood, he still needed a career-defining role which would launch him into superstardom.

Becoming a Star: Trollied, Him & Her, The Bletchley Circle, Babylon and More

That role came in 2011, when he was cast as Kieran in “Trollied”, a critically acclaimed sitcom depicting the lives of people working in an English supermarket. Despite Kieran initially being a minor role, everyone loved Nick and his dedication, so they decided to keep him around. At the same time, we could see him in two highly rated British series – “Him & Her” and “The Bletchley Circle”.

Critics were baffled by his versatility, as he went from comedy to thrillers and showed no signs of stopping. After two years in the show, he took a short break to spend time with his family.

In 2014, he gave his fans something they’d been wanting to see – a movie role! Even though he’s seen mainly as a small-screen actor, Nick decided to display his talents in “X Moor”. This horror flick follows two documentary makers who look to catch and film The Beast, a mythical creature mentioned in rural Georgian folklore. The same year, he also tried his hand at voice acting, by being Hall the Archer in “Dragon Age: Inquisition”. He didn’t have to wait long before another big part, as he impressed everyone by playing Warwick in “Babylon”.

Recent Works: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Movies

It was in 2014 when Nick became a superstar on a global level, when he was cast as Lance Hunter in the massively popular show as a member of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.), his character gave his contribution to battles against some of the most dangerous villains in the entire Marvel Universe. Even though he wasn’t a main character, Lance was definitely a fan favorite. In between schemes, time travel and other instances of shenanigans, Nick showed the world how talented he really is, and certainly, did everyone take notice! Upon leaving the show, he chose to focus on movies, with appearances in “Say My Name” and “Still”.

He still had mostly TV appearances, but also the  films “The Offering” and “Lovely, Dark and Deep” both in 2023.  He was Thomas in six episodes of “Close to Me” (2021), and as Sturges in four episodes of “Slow Horses” in 2023, along with several other shorter roles.

Despite having countless television roles and accomplishments to his name, Nick has stayed loyal to his first love – the stage. In 2009, he formed “WE.BUY.GOLD”, an independent theater company, in collaboration with longtime friend and fellow LAMDA graduate, Tom McCall. Their debut show, “Inches Apart” was both written and spearheaded by Nick in a starring role.

Unexpectedly, they won an Old Vic New Voices Theatre 503 Award, which gave them the opportunity to open their play as a professional production. Another notable role of his was Adam in “The Priory”, which ran at the Royal Court Theatre for three months. In 2011, he impressed critics with his portrayal of Stuart Sutcliffe, the forgotten “fifth Beatle” in “Backbeat”; due to the demands of the role, he actually had to learn to play the bass guitar. An enormous success, the production also ran in several venues in Canada.

Personal Life: Is Nick Blood Gay? Does He Have a Girlfriend?

When talking about Nick’s current love life, there’s not much to be said. Ever since entering the spotlight in the early 2010s, he’s managed to keep a low profile and steer clear of any malicious rumors.

Despite playing a gay character in “Material Girl”, he is very much heterosexual – in the past, he dated actress Claudia Mirallegro, the sister of Nico Mirallegro, who starred in “My Mad Fat Diary”. The two apparently enjoyed a wonderful time together, but seemingly dropped off the grid in 2016.  Since then, there were rumours that he and Adrianne Palicki were an item, but neither he nor she wanted to comment on the matter.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, Nick married model Emory Ault in December 2023, having been engaged for a year, all somewhat on the quiet, as is Nick’s want. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the ceremony was in Liverpool. He spends most of his free time with his family, but… is a life-long Liverpool FC fan!

Net Worth: How Rich is Nick Blood?

Have you ever wondered how affluent this famous actor really is? According to several credible sources, Nick Blood has a net worth close to $3 million, as of mid-2024, accumulated in a rather impressive manner, as he made his acting debut at the age of 27. Even though most of his peers had roles as teens, Nick refused to be discouraged and worked his way up to become one of the most respected British actors. A large chunk of his personal wealth is due to his role in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”, which is widely regarded as one of the most popular shows of the era. Given that he’s still active, we might see Nick’s net worth rise in the near future.

Social Media Presence

Most actors love social media, as they can use various platforms to build their brand and interact with fans. Nick is somewhat of an exception as he only uses Instagram – followed by 105,000 people, his profile mostly consists of artistic photos and snapshots from his personal life.
