Carolina Gaitán Wiki Bio

Colombian actress and singer Carolina del Pilar Gaitán Lozano was born in Villavicencio, Colombia on 4 April 1984, making Aries her zodiac sign. She has 33 acting credits, and is perhaps known best for voicing Pepa in the critically acclaimed 2021 animated family comedy movie “Encanto”, which starred Maria Cecilia Botero and Stephanie Beatriz, and was directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush. It follows the life of a Colombian teenage girl, the only one in her family without magical powers, and the film won 53 of its 138 award nominations, including an Oscar win for Best Animated Feature Film.

Carolina’s currently shooting for three upcoming movies: “Second Chances”, “Perfidious” and “8 Confessions in Los Angeles”.

Education and early life

Carolina was raised alongside her brother German Gaitan Lozano in Villavicencio, by their parents about whom not many details have been shared, because Carolina respects their privacy; her mother’s believed to be a housewife, and her father the owner of his own small business.

Carolina became interested in acting when she was seven years old, as she began watching TV with her mother on a daily basis. She became serious about pursuing a career in the film industry while attending a local high school, and played lead roles in a number of school plays.

Upon matriculating in 2002, Carolina moved to New York City and enrolled at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2006.

Roles in TV series

Carolina’s debut TV series role was playing Yuli Salcedo in the 2005 action adventure “Vuelo 1503”, and the year 2007 saw her star as Sara Bautista in all 120 episodes of the romantic drama “Zona Rosa”, which also starred Carolina Sabino and Norma Nivia, and follows four girlfriends who are living together, even though they have entirely different personalities.

Carolina was then cast to appear in an episode of the romantic comedy “Asi es la Vida” and the crime drama “Mujeres Asesinas”, and in 2008, she starred as Laura Yohana Baquero in all 70 episodes of the comedy “Novia Para Dos”, which also starred Manuela Gonzalez and Lincoln Palomeque, and follows two friends who’ve fallen for the same girl.

In 2009 and 2010, Carolina starred as Gabriela Rueda in all 208 episodes of the drama “Gabriela Giros del Destino”, and the same years saw her star as Catalina Benabeu in 109 episodes of the musical family comedy “Isa TKM”. In 2011 and 2012, she portrayed Alicia in 149 episodes of the drama “Flor Salvaje”, which starred Tony Dalton and Monica Spear, and follows a young girl who’s lost both her mother and brother in one day.

The year 2013 saw Carolina star as Ana Belen Paez Arguello in 76 episodes of the drama “Alias el Mexicano”, which also starred Juan Sebastian Calero, and follows a humble young man who’s begun working for a Colombian drug lord as his emerald miner.

Carolina’s three most recent TV series roles have been in three episodes of the 2019 biographical historical mini-series “Cordova ‘Un General Llamado Arrojo’”, 10 episodes of the 2021 thriller “MalaYerba”, and eight episodes of the 2022 comedy “Juanpis Gonzalez – The Series”.

Roles in movies

Carolina’s debut film role was playing Amiga de Natalia in the 2007 crime drama “Satanas”, which starred Blas Jaramillo and Marcela Valencia, and was written and directed by Andres Baiz. Inspired by true events, the film follows three events occurring on the night of the Pozzetto Massacre, and it won three of its seven award nominations.

Carolina’s following film role came in 2014, when cast to star as Isabella in the comedy “Melones & Pepinos”, which also starred Julieth Restrepo and Johana Bahamon, and was directed by Daniel Ayala Lopez and Diego Ayala Lopez; it follows three couples who all met during a game of the Colombian national football team. The year 2017 saw her appear in three movies: the music video “Miedo”, the critically acclaimed biographical musical “The Greatest Showman” (uncredited) and the short drama “Carmen”.

Most recently, in 2023, Carolina played the lead character Sofia in the thriller “Quicksand”, which also starred Sebastian Eslava and Allan Hawco, and was directed by Andres Beltran; it follows a married couple who are about to divorce, and who’ve now become trapped together in quicksand while hiking.

Carolina directed the 2017 music video “Miedo”.

She’s appeared in two talk-shows: “Decisiones Extremas” and “Don Francisco Te Invita”.

Carolina’s been nominated for seven awards, including a 2022 PRODU Award for Mejor Actriz Principal Serie Dramatica and a 2022 Premios India Catalina Award for Best Actress in Telenovela or TV Series, both for “MalaYerba”, and a 2023 Brit Award for International Song of the Year, for “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”.

Love life and husband

Carolina’s been married for close to a decade now, but as she prefers to keep the details of her love life away from media, not many details have been disclosed about the marriage.

She and her other half, Colombian non-celebrity Nicolas Moreno exchanged vows in a small ceremony on 11 April 2015, attended by not more than 100 people; it’s widely believed that Nicolas is a gym instructor, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

There are no other men whom Carolina’s been with, that we know about; she’s married to Nicolas Moreno as of July 2023, and doesn’t have children.

Carolina’s passionate about music, and has released two extended plays (EPs): “La Gaita” on 11 May 2018 (self-released) and “De Colombia” on 13 August 2021, through MUN Records.

She’s taking good care of her physique; Carolina works out at the gym several times every week, and also follows a strict diet.

She’s a philanthropist and has donated money to several charity organizations working with underprivileged children.

Penelope Cruz is one of her favorite actresses, and some of her favorite movies include “The 355”, “Loving Pablo” and “Parallel Mothers”.
