Early life and education
Jean spent her childhood in New York alongside her parents, and studied at Harborfields High School in Greenlawn. She grew up in a very religious family and has been going to church since she was a young girl – she has also been a member of the church’s singing choir, and also helped them organize numerous events.
Jean wanted to become an actress while she was growing–up, and gave it a try after marrying Alex, but hasn’t made a career in it. She was never focused on her education, and rather chose to focus on her religion, her marriage, and her children, putting her family’s needs in front of making her dreams come true.
Career as a realtor
Jean launched her career as soon as she matriculated from high school, and became part of a real estate business. She has been working in the same field for around 38 years now, and has made very good progress – when she met her husband Alex for the first time, she was working as a real estate project manager.
Marriage with Alex Trebek
Jean and Alex first met in 1988 at a party, and the people attending described it as love at first sight. After two years of dating, Alex asked Jean to marry him – he bought her a 16 carat sapphire ring which had a circle made of diamonds. The wedding took place in the Regency Club in Los Angeles and the two invited more than 150 people, and as a wedding gift, Alex bought an entire mountain located in Hollywood Hills where he has built a house for his wife and himself.
In 1990, Jean gave birth their son Matthew while their daughter Emily followed in 1993 – she helped her son open a Mexican restaurant called “Oso” in New York, while her daughter has attended the Layola Marymount University and graduated four years ago. George Alexander Trebek was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on 22 July 1940 – his birth sign is Cancer and he holds both Canadian and American nationalities. Alex is a TV personality mostly known for being the host of the “Jeopardy!” game show since 1984. Alex was born to George Edward Trebek who came to Ontario from Ukraine, and Lucille Lagace who is a French-Canadian – thanks to his mother’s French heritage, Alex is fluent in both English and French. He attended Sudbury High School and had his first job at the age of 13 as he worked at the same hotel as his father. At the age of 18,, he enrolled at the University of Ottawa from which he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1961 – he wanted to become a news reporter, and began working for the CBC network in 1961, however, he soon fell in love with game shows, and gave up on being a reporter.
Alex hosted his first game/quiz show in 1966, entitled “Reach for the Top” – he joined CBC once again in 1967, and hosted a skating program as well as their “Strategy” game show. The year 1973 saw Alex move to live in the US, and he began working for the NBC network as a host of their “The Wizard of Odds” and “High Rollers” game shows. In 1984, he began hosting the “Jeopardy!” game show, and has been hosting it for more than 35 years now – he has also hosted a number of other game shows throughout the years, including “Classic Concentration” and “To Tell the Truth”.
Jean has done a bit of acting as well, as he has appeared in “The X-Files” TV series playing one of the ‘Men in Black’ men in 1966 – he has also appeared in a single episode of both “How I Met Your Mother” and “Hot in Cleveland” TV series.
Alex suffered from a heart attack in 2007, and another in 2012 – he has recently been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer, and although he is undergoing chemotherapy, the odds of winning are very small as only around 3% of people with this kind of cancer have managed to survive more than five years after they were diagnosed.
Jean’s hobbies and interests
Jean is a very religious person and has been raising her children to be believers as well. She goes to the North Hollywood Church of Religious Science every week, and is listed as a practitioner on the church’s website. She enjoys watching her husband on TV, and has fallen in love with the film industry mostly thanks to him – they often watch movies together such as “When Harry Met Sally” and “Gone with the Wind” as they are both fans of old movies.
