Anna Shaffer started her acting career by appearing in several movies of the “Harry Potter” saga. As of 2019, she was cast in another role, in the fantasy series “The Witcher”, playing Triss Merigold, the sorceress of Maribor.
Early life and family
Anna Shaffer was born on 15 March 1992, in London England, so she holds British nationality and her zodiac sign is Pisces. Her father’s name is unknown, although Shaffer is her maiden name, but her mother’s name is Margaret Barth. Anna’s mother has the awkward tradition of sending Christmas cards to herself, writing the words of support and cheering herself up, perhaps so she didn’t feel lonely during the Christmas holidays, when her children were not around.
Anna has an older brother, whose name is Josh. It is known if Anna and her brother have a very warm and close relationship. Josh is interested in history and in the Russian revolution in particular.

First steps in the acting career
Anna debuted on the silverscreen in the role of Romilda Vane in “Harry Potter”. In the sixth part of the series entitled “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” (2009) Anna portrayed the Gryffindor student who unsuccessfully tried to romance Harry Potter, even using the love potion, which eventually was taken by Ron Weasley by mistake.
Anna later appeared in the last movies of the saga, also displaying the character of Romilda in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” (Part 1 in 2010 and Part 2 in 2011).
Ruby Button on “Hollyoaks”
In December 2010 Anna was announced in the role of Ruby Button in the popular soap opera “Hollyoaks”, aired on the British Channel 4, the sister of Duncan Button, who was portrayed by Dean Aspen. It is worth saying that at first Anna was auditioned for the role of Leanne Holiday, losing the casting to Jessica Forrest: ‘When I first auditioned, I think I was reading for the part of Leanne Holiday. It was nerve-wracking because they were filming it, and there were five people in the room.
I just remember being very nervous, and really scared that the script would start shaking as I was holding it’, Anna shared her emotions on the auditions. Anna had to relocate to Liverpool to be filmed in the series, and the first episode with her was launched on 3 January 2011. In February 2014 the character of Ruby was announced to quit the show, but Anna appeared in a couple more episodes in November 2017 and in April 2018, as the storyline demanded. The critics were quite bored with the plot twists around Ruby, so their negative reviews pushed the producers of the series to focus on other characters.
Triss Merigold in “The Witcher”
Anna landed the role of the sorceress Triss Merigold in 2018, appearing in three episodes of the first season of the fantasy series: “Much More”, “Before a Fall” and “Betrayer Moon”.
There were a lot of speculation around Anna getting the role of Triss, as the community was sharing mostly negative expectations of her acting. Many fans consider Anna doesn’t at all look like Triss – neither the book version nor in the video games. The character of Triss Merigold is all about the unusual color of her hair which is specified by the author of the “Witcher” saga, Andrzej Sapkowski, as ‘the shade of October chestnut’. Anna’s hair color was left dark brown and was not even close to the red shade.
Netflix started filming “The Witcher” in 2018, with Henry Cavill who landed the title role of Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra who portrays Geralt’s love of his life, Yennefer, and Freya Allan, who landed the role of Ciri, the Lion Cub of Cintra.
The series attracted mixed reviews, and even though the critics consider the entry threshold to be too high and that the series is made only for the fans of the books and the video games, the audience’s feedback is quite positive.
Other endeavors
Besides her appearances in “The Witcher” and “Hollyoaks”, Anna also filmed in such series as “Cuckoo” (2012 – present), “Finding Jesus: Faith. Fact. Forgery” (2015 – present), landing the role of Mary Magdalene, and “Zapped” (2016 – 2018). She’s also played minor roles in “Class” (2016 – present), “Fearless” (2017) and “Vengeance” (2018), and featured in the music video “YDEK (You Don’t Even Know)” performed by the Warehouse Republic.
Anna is currently in the theatre production at the Park Lane Theatre, London, playing the role of Daisy in “Daisy Pulls It Off”. As a model, she was once featured on the cover of the “Knitting” magazine. Anna also promotes the lingerie line for women with plus-size shapes – “Figleaves”.

Anna is an active member of the political community which opposes Brexit, and personally Boris Johnson and Theresa May. Through the posts on her Instagram account, Anna constantly reminds her fans and followers not to forget to vote against leaving the EU (European Union). She also mentioned she didn’t believe either Johnson or May, and supposed that it was the matter of life and death to stay in the EU.
