Laura Christine Payton, known as Laura Dotson since she married Dan Dotson, was born in San Bernardino, California USA, on 13 May 1968 – her birth sign is Taurus and she holds American nationality. Laura is best known for starring in the “Storage Wars” reality TV series, which airs on the A&E Network.

Childhood and education

Laura grew up in Thousand Oaks in California, where she was raised by her parents – her father was a mechanic who was also into auctioning, and Laura credits her passion for it to him.

She was attending auctions with her father while studying at a local high school in Thousand Oaks, and after matriculation, worked several jobs before venturing into auctioneering in 1988.

Starring in the “Storage Wars” TV show and other works

Laura’s husband Dan founded the American Auctioneers company in 1983 – Laura first became Dan’s business partner in 1996, eventually becoming the co-owner of the company, and currently serving as the company’s manager. American Auctioneers specializes in legal and foreclosure auctions, auctions of storage units, estates, fundraisers, and appraisals – Laura usually does two auctions per days and works six days a week.

She and Dan also own the StorageAuctions.net website, which provides self-storage auction listings in the US and Canada.

After Laura and Dan’s company and their skills were noticed by a producer working for the A&E Network, they were invited to star in the “Storage Wars” reality TV show – it began airing on 1 December 2010 and stars many other people, such as Eric Lewis, Sunny Santino, and Dave Hester. It so far counts 12 seasons and 275 episodes as of March 2019.

While they are friends and lovers, the two are also business partners, therefore spending most of their time together – Laura gave birth to their child sometime in the ‘00s, but both Laura and Dan have been trying to keep the child (now a teenager) away from the media’s attention. The family of three is currently living in Los Angeles, California.

Laura’s main hobby is travelling, and she has already been to many states for her job, and for pleasure – she has also had a chance to travel around Canada, and is a respected auctioneer there as well. She is very interested in cars which is something she inherited from her father – one of the first cars she purchased was a Ford 1965 Shelby while she also owns a Maserati purchased in 2012. Two of the latest additions to her collection are a Cadillac and a 52 year-old Chevy which she purchased in 2015.

Dan Dotson was born in San Bernardino, California USA, on 23 November 1962 – his zodiac sign is Sagittarius and he holds American nationality. Dan is an auctioneer and a businessman who has been part of the auctioning industry since 1974 – he came under the spotlight after he and Laura were cast to appear in “Storage Wars”.

Dan’s grandfather Sam Fancher was a cattle and farm auctioneer, working in the Ozark Mountains in northwest Arkansas, who was apprenticed by Detmen Mitchell. When Dan was 11, his grandfather started teaching him auctioneering which continued during the next five years, then once he turned 16, Dan started skipping classes so that he could go to the Chino auction in California, where he worked for Merl Bernard selling his furniture.

He went on to found his own business called American Auctioneers in 1983, while he simultaneously ran an auction house in Riverside, which specialized in pottery, furniture, and collectibles.

He gained recognition after he became part of the main cast of “Storage Wars”, together with Laura, on 1 December 2010, while he became known worldwide in 2018 when he auctioned off a unit which contained $7.5 million in cash in a safe.

Dan’s health problems began on 16 June 2014 when he suffered from a double aneurysm – his wife recalls him waking up at 1:30 a.m. asking her strange questions and when he woke up again six hours later, he was complaining on having double vision and feeling weird, took a shower and collapsed in front of her. Laura called the police who taught her over the phone how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) – she managed to help her husband who later successfully underwent surgery, so far with no after effects.
