In the third season of “Storage Wars”, Darrell and Brandon bought a storage locker for $3,600, and it later turned out to contain a collection of Frank Gutierrez’s original artwork, estimated to be worth more than $300,000. The father-son duo gained international fame thanks to one of the best findings, and with the biggest profit in the history of the show.

Throughout his three-decade-long career, Darrell has found many precious and unusual items, including a rare collection of comic books, four drawings by Pablo Picasso, a letter written by the 16th president of the US Abraham Lincoln which he sold for more than $15,000, and many other valuable items. On the other hand, Darrell once found a human corpse, which was wrapped in plastic. It was later discovered the found corpse was actually the body of the wife of the locker’s previous owner, who had killed her and hid her corpse in the locker.

Kimber eventually called him and they soon started dating, in 2011, and became engaged in 2012.
They spent a lot of time together with their four children, two from his first marriage and two from her previous marriage, however, the couple broke up in 2016. During the same year, Darrell announced his engagement to Romney Synder. She works at HiCaliber Horse Rescue. They are still together.
In March 2019, Darrell was hospitalized after he suffered a heart attack; it was found out that he had congestive heart failure, for which he underwent surgery. Darrell is currently recovering.
