Martino was raised the only son in Vimianzo by his father Manuel Rivas who is a writer and a journalist, and his mother Maria Isabel Lopez Marino who is a housewife.

He attended a high school in London, England where he joined a drama class, and became interested in acting, winning his first roles in school plays. After matriculation, he returned to Spain and enrolled at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2007.

Martino grew up playing several sports, and was interested in learning languages, being fluent in Spanish, Galician and English – he’s been criticized for speaking Spanish with a Galician accent.
