Shay Shariatzadeh was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1989 – she is an engineer and a product manager, but popular for being the girlfriend of John Cena, a famous World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) wrestler. Shay follows the Islamic religion and holds Canadian nationality.

Early life and education

Shay spent her childhood in Vancouver, where she was raised by her mother, who works as a surgeon in a hospital in Vancouver. Shay has an older brother whom she credits with her passion for engineering – she saw the project he made for his engineering class, and then chose to follow in his footsteps. She studied at the University of British Columbia, and graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering.

Shay actually launched her career after she matriculated from high school, by working as a sales associate for the “La Vie En Rose” clothing brand. She stayed with them until September 2009, when she began working for “Guess” as their sales associate through to May 2011. From September 2012 to April 2013, she worked for Alpha Technologies Ltd. as their engineering peer advisor – she also performed numerous other duties at the company, such as software testing and served as both electrical and applications engineer. Shay is currently working as a product manager for Avigilon, which is a security systems service based in Vancouver.

Shay and John Cena were first seen together in public on 3 March 2019, sitting together at the Thierry dessert shop. Not long afterwards, on 27 March 2019, the two were seen walking hand in hand in the streets of Vancouver. John Cena was married once in the past – he and his wife Elizabeth Huberdeau married in 2009 and divorced in 2012 due to what appears to be infidelity on John’s side. He began dating Nikki Bella, another wrestler, shortly after the divorce was completed, but the two broke-up in April 2018.

John was raised by John Felix Anthony Cena and Carol, and has an older brother named Stephen, and three younger brothers called Dan, Matt, and Sean. He became the WWE Champion for the first time in 2005 after defeating JBL at the WrestleMania event. John has been wrestling to his day, and has won numerous championships, including World Tag Team Championship and World Heavyweight Championship – he is considered to be the greatest professional wrestler in the history of WWE. John is a fashionista who keeps up with the latest trends in hip hop culture. He enjoys wearing clothes related to the military, such as camouflage outfits and marine soldier caps.

He is also an actor, who made his debut appearance in “The Marine” movie released on 13 October 2006 – his second role was in the “12 Rounds” movie which was, just as “The Marine”, produced by the WWE Studios, and released on 27 March 2009. He appeared in the “Legendary” film shot in 2010, and was then cast in a lead role in “Fred: The Movie” children’s film. Some of his other appearances have been in “Trainwreck”, “Daddy’s Home”, and “Sisters” comedy movies in 2015. He played a significant role in the “Bumblebee” movie released in 2018, and is going to appear in the upcoming “Fast & Furious 9” film, set to be released on 21 May 2020.

John is a rapper as well, and released his first album “You Can’t See Me” on 10 May 2005 – he collaborated with the popular rapper Wiz Khalifa on two of his songs, entitled “Breaks” and “All Day”.

Shay’s likes and interests

Shay enjoys travelling, and has been to several European countries, such as Switzerland and England, but her favorite place in the world is her hometown Vancouver. She combines her passion for travelling with her love for food, mostly preferring to eat continental food. She likes to read, which is a habit she developed at a very early age, and some of her favorite books are “The Lord of the Rings” by J.R.R. Tolkien and “A Game of Thrones” by George R.R. Martin. Shay’s favorite color is black.
