Early life and education

Amy was raised in Milwaukee by her adoptive mother Nancy who is a nurse, and her adoptive father Arnold Pietz who worked as a truck driver. She became interested in dance when she was six and Nancy enrolled her into ballet classes – it didn’t take long for Amy to become an avid ballet dancer and she wanted to go professional, however, she changed her mind when she realized the low pay!

She studied at the Milwaukee High School of the Arts, and after matriculation enrolled at DePaul University’s Theatre School graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 1992.

Career as an actress

Amy’s debut film appearance was as Melinda in “Rudy” in 1993 – three years later, she portrayed Liza Tisch in the film “Jingle All the Way”. She played Sam in the “You” drama film in 2009 and next year played Officer Annie in the “I Was a 7th Grade Dragon Slayer” comedy film.

In the upcoming years, Amy appeared in several movies such as “Zephyr Springs” in 2013 and “The Pact 2” in 2014, while her latest appearance has been in the “Saddle Up!” film released in 2018. Amy is best known for appearing in TV series, with her debut being in the “Missing Persons” series in which she played Lucy Stansfield – in 1994, she appeared in a single episode of the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” TV series, then from 1995 to ‘99, she starred in the “Caroline in the City” sitcom TV series, for which performance she was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for an outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series.

Amy has married twice – she met Kenneth Alan Williams, a fellow actor, while she was still working her way up in the film industry. Kenneth is best known for appearing in the “ER” TV series as well as in “Will & Grace” and “V.I.P.” TV series, both in 1998. They married in her hometown of Milwaukee on 25 May 1997 but divorced nine years later in 2006 – before she met Kenneth, she was in a relationship with her college sweetheart, and gave birth to their son in 1992. As her boyfriend left her and she didn’t want to raise the child all on her own, Amy gave her son up for adoption.

On 17 January 2010 Amy married Frank Stier, but nothing about the man is known except for his name – the two have been together ever since, and have two children.

Hobbies and other interests

Amy has been interested in ballet since she was six years old, and although she doesn’t take classes anymore, she admits how she occasionally dances at home while listening to music – she also enjoys listening to jazz and blues, and often attends concerts at which those genres are played.
