Charles and Christiana Barkley

Who is Charles Barkley, Christiana’s father?

Charles Barkley was born in Leeds, Alabama USA on 20 February 1963 – his zodiac sign is Pisces and he holds American nationality. Charles is a retired professional basketball player who competed in the National Basketball Association (NBA) – he goes by the nicknames The Round Mound of Rebound, Sir Charles, and Street Beef. Charles attended Leeds High School, and although he was taller and heavier than most other students there, he initially still failed to join the school’s basketball main team, and was put on the  reserve bench – he became part of the starting team only during his senior year, when he was 6ft 4ins (1.93m) tall.

He was scouted by Auburn University and won a scholarship, subsequently playing for Auburn for three years until graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business management in 1985. He played the center while at Auburn, and still holds the Auburn record for career field goal percentage to this day, which is 62.6.

He joined the NBA league in 1984 after being drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers team, and had a chance to play with Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, and Moses Malone who had brought Philadelphia to NBA championship just the year before.

Moses Malone took him under his wing, helped him maintain his weight, and taught him training and playing techniques. In his second year with the 76ers, Charles became the team’s leading rebounder and second best scorer. Even though 76ers were defeated by Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference semifinals, Charles was still selected for the ALL-NBA Second Team.

After Moses Malone moved to the Washington Bullets in 1986, Charles steadily took control of the team. After Julius Erving retired in 1987, Charles became the 76ers’ franchise player, and was named to the ALL-NBA First Team, also earning a feature on the cover page of the “Sports Illustrated” magazine.

He played his final season with the 76ers in 1992, then was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, but almost immediately to the Phoenix Suns.

His first season with the Suns was very productive and he helped them achieve their best NBA season of 62-20, with Charles winning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. His final season with the Suns was 1995-1996, when he was traded to the Houston Rockets in exchange for four of their players.

His venture with the Rockets was his final chance to win an NBA title, but it did not happen. On 8 December 1999, he ruptured his left quadriceps tendon which marked the end of his NBA career– he has since been working for Turner Network Television as their studio basketball analyst.

Charles is also a writer, as he collaborated with Roy S. Johnson on the “Outrageous” autobiographical book in 1991, and in 2002 released his “I May Be Wrong, But I Doubt It” book – in 2005, he published “Who’s Afraid of a Large Black Man?” collection of interviews. He is an actor too, who appeared in the “Space Jam” film in 1996, the “Suits” TV series in 2014, and the “Modern Family” TV series in 2016.
