Who is Frida Gustavsson?
Swedish model and actress Frida Gustavsson was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on 6 June 1993, making Gemini her zodiac sign. She has 13 acting credits, and is perhaps known best for playing one of the main characters, Freydis Eriksdotter in 15 episodes of the critically acclaimed action adventure series “Vikings: Valhalla”, which also stars Leo Suter and Sam Corlett, and was created by Jeb Stuart. Set 100 years after the events in the series “Vikings”, the sequel follows the adventures of Harald Hardrada, Freydis and Leif Erikson; it’s been airing since 2022, and has won three of its 17 award nominations.
Frida’s currently shooting for the upcoming short movie “Unblinded”.
Education and early life
Frida was raised alongside her brothers Johan and Lerik in Stockholm, by their father Leffe and mother whose name remains undisclosed; not many details have been shared about her family, because she respects their privacy.
She was only five when she made her debut TV series appearance, playing Klasskamrat in the 1998 episode “Avsnitt 1” of the family drama “När Karusellerna Sover”, but she didn’t have any roles in the following 15 years.
Frida was 12 when she visited an IKEA store with her family, and was spotted by a modelling scout. She was 15 when she signed her first modelling contract, and the same year saw her move to Japan to pursue a career there; she still remained enrolled at St Martins Gymnasium, from which she matriculated in June 2011, having previously moved back to Sundbyberg, Sweden.
Frida hasn’t attended college.
Roles in movies
Frida’s debut film role was starring in the 2013 short fantasy “Nina L’eau”, and the year 2019 saw her play the main character Ninni Nilsson in the romantic drama “Swoon”, which also starred Robert Gustafsson and Albin Grenholm, and was written and directed by Mans Marlind. It follows the lives of several people before, during and after a war, and the movie won three of its nine award nominations.
In 2020, Frida played Vibeke in the biographical sports drama “Tigers”, which starred Erik Enge and Alfred Enoch, and was written and directed by Ronnie Sandahl. It follows the life of teenage football talent Martin Bengtsson, and the film won six of its 16 award nominations.
Frida’s only other film role has been portraying Tesla Dubcek in the 2022 fantasy horror “Dampyr”, which starred Stuart Martin and Wade Briggs, and was directed by Riccardo Chemello; it follows Harlan Draka who doesn’t know that he’s half-vampire, and the film was nominated for a David di Donatello Award for Best Visual Effects.
Roles in TV series
In 2015, Frida played Jenna Svensson in both episodes of the crime action mini-series “Arne Dahl: Efterskalv”, and the year 2019 saw her portray Vuxna Thea in 13 episodes of the science fiction mystery “Drom”; it starred Emanuel Kielin and Adam Gutniak, and follows the life of a young girl with the ability to see the future.
Also in 2019, Frida played Ma in the episode “Much More” of the popular action adventure “The Witcher”, which has won six of its 29 award nominations, and she then played Luna Akkers in the 2019 episode “Nachtgespenster” of the crime drama “The Inspector and the Sea”.
In 2020, Frida portrayed the lead character Alex in all six episodes of the science fiction thriller “De Utvalda”, which also starred Felice Jankell and Amy Deasismont, and follows 12 girls who’ve awoken in a mysterious mansion, and have learned that they’re about to die in a medical experiment unless they find a way to escape.
Frida’s only other TV series role has been playing Clara in five episodes of the popular crime thriller “Partisan”, which has been airing since 2020, and stars Anna Bjork and Emelie Garbers. The series follows a man who’s taken a job in the gated community of Jordnara, and it’s won one of its three award nominations.

Modelling career
Frida opened the 2012 Valentino Haute Couture Fall Show in Paris, France and has since walked the catwalk for numerous famous designers, including Calvin Klein, Michael Kors and Christian Dior.
She’s been the face of Maybelline since 2013.
Frida’s been featured on the cover page of many magazines, including “Vogue” (in many countries), “W” and “Elle”.
In 2020, she walked the catwalk for Jean Paul Gaultier.
Husband and divorce
Frida’s married twice. Her first husband was Swedish photographer Hjalmar Rechlin; they exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Sweden on 30 May 2015, and while it’s known that the two have since divorced, the exact date of its finalization hasn’t been disclosed. Frida hasn’t spoken about what had led to their divorce, but it’s believed that Hjalmar wanted children, and that she wanted to focus on her career.
Since 3 September 2022, Frida’s been married to her second husband, Swedish model and actor Marcel Engdale; they exchanged vows at the Storkyrkan Church in Stockholm, and don’t have children together.

Frida’s an Instagram star, and more than 330,000 people are following her on the network today; she’s posted more than 1,000 pictures and videos, while most of these show her during her everyday life.
She loves spending her spare time in nature; Frida enjoys winter the most, and is an avid skier and snowboarder.
