Beena Minhaj (nee Patel) was born in the 1980s in the US, and holds American nationality, while both of her parents are originally from India. She’s a health professional, who rose to public prominence after marrying famous comedian Minhaj.
Childhood and education
Beena was raised by her Hindu parents in California, where she spent most of her childhood. After finishing high school, she enrolled at the University of California, Davis and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in neurobiology, physiology, and behavioral science in 2007.
She continued her education at the University of California Davis School of Medicine, and obtained her master’s degree in public health in 2008 – in 2010, she received her Doctor of Public Health degree, and won the Ruth Roemer Award for creative local public health work.
Career as a health professional
Beena had begun working in 2007 for The Retinal Consultants Medical Group as their clinical research co-ordinator and stayed with them for over a year while she was simultaneously working for Lucentis and Avastin pharmaceutical companies.
She became part of the Cave Consulting Group in October 2008, which she served as an account manager, and was later promoted to a clinical operations analyst – this gave her an opportunity to work for some of the most popular health organizations, including National Quality Forum. In October 2010, she started working for the University of California, Los Angeles’ Center For Health Policy Research, and soon became the director of their Homeless Patient Aligned Care Team Three years later in 2013, she won a job at the MedAmerica company where she initially worked as a practice management consultant – she was promoted to a transformation consultant in the summer of 2017, and is today working in the position.
Marriage with Hasan
Hasan and Beena met in 2007, while they were both studying at the University of California, Davis – Hasan has stated in an interview how it was love at first sight for him. They married in January 2015 after nearly eight years of dating, but didn’t move in together until the ceremony was completed, as this isn’t accepted in the Indian culture – both Beena and Hasan are of Indian descent. Beena gave birth to their daughter on 22 April 2018, and the family is now living in New York City.

Hasan was raised in a Muslim family by his father Najme and mother Seema, who moved to Davis in California shortly before he was born – not long afterwards, Hasan stayed in the US with his father who is a chemist, while his mother returned to India to work on her education. Years later, his mother returned to the US with Hasan’s sister – whom he didn’t know he had – who was eight years old at the time. Hasan finished Davis Senior High School in 2003, and graduated from the University of California, Davis with a bachelor’s degree in science in 2007.
He fell for comedy at college, and mostly influenced by the famous comedian Chris Rock, he began doing stand-up comedy, and won the Best Comic Standing competition in 2008 organized by the Wild 94.9 radio station. He became an opening comedian for other famous stand-up comedy performers such as Gabriel Iglesias and Katt Williams, before moving to Los Angeles in 2009, and becoming a finalist in the “Stand-up for Diversity” NBC show.
He won a role in the “State of Georgia” TV series in 2011, and went on to appear in many other TV series and shows such as MTV’s “Disaster Date”, “Getting On”, and “Arrested Development”. He started hosting the “Stand Up Planet” comedy show in 2013, and had his voice acting debut when he lent his voice to a character in the “Far Cry 4” video game.
