Early life and education

Agnes was born on the same day when Hurricane Agnes hit the US, thus her name. She was born into a family of hunters as both her mother and father were fighting the Alaskan cold weather and were struggling to live there. Agnes learned how to hunt and set traps at a very early age, which is very important for both girls and boys living in the Alaskan wilderness.

She was homeschooled and received her high school diploma in 1990 after passing her tests.

Agnes’ life and her appearance in the “Life Below Zero” reality TV series

Agnes is a hunter and she strives to survive the best she can with what she has in Alaska. She has a Mosin Nagant 3-line rifle M1819 known as the Mosin’s rifle in Russia which is a five-shot, bolt-action, internal magazine military rifle developed between 1882 and 1891. The rifle is the most produced in the history of wars with over 37 million units made while they are still very popular. She has an all-purpose knife which she named Ulu.

Agnes gained recognition on 19 May 2013, when she was cast to star in the “Life Below Zero” reality TV series which airs on National Geographic Channel. It shows several people who are living in remote areas of Alaska from choice, surviving in its below-zero conditions. These people hunt for food and depend only on themselves and the resources they have. Some of the main characters are Sue Aikens, a 54 year-old woman and the only resident of the Kavik river camp, our Agnes and her husband Chip, and Glen Villeneuve, among others.

The series has won four rewards – 68th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for an outstanding cinematography for a reality program in 2016, a 69th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for an outstanding picture editing for an unstructured reality program in 2017, and a 70th and 71st Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for an outstanding cinematography for a reality program in both 2018 and 2019. The series so far counts 12 seasons and 147 episodes.

Sue Aikens, the star of the series, was left alone to survive in Alaska when her mother abandoned her there at the age of 12.

She often moved from place to place, and is now the proud owner of the Kavik River Camp which is an exploration camp providing accommodation in the summer for all those who want to experience life in the wilderness. She is a philanthropist who has reserved a period of time in summer for underprivileged children, and those who might not be able to afford staying at her camp.

Agnes was also a principal in her family’s company called Caribou Arts and Adventures, which is no longer active.

Love life and first husband

Agnes’ first husband was a man known only by his surname Carter. Agnes gave birth to two of their children named Douglas Doug Carter and Jon Hailstone, before the two divorced after a couple of years of marriage, due to what appears to be Carter’s wish to move away from Alaska. Douglas has since become a hunter and is married to Gloria Iyatunguk with whom he has five children, and the family is currently living in Deering, Alaska. Jon has also become a hunter and is a married man.

Agnes met Chip Hailstone (born Edward V Hailstone in 1969) in Noorvik in 1988 years, before she met and married her first husband. They married in 1998 and have five daughters together named Iriqtaq, Quitan, Caroline, Mary, and Tinmiaq. Iriqtaq is 21 years old, she is attending college and has a son Wade who was born in 2016, while Mary is a captain of a basketball team in her high school.

Hobbies and other interests

Agnes enjoys living in the wilderness, in the coldest place in the USA which is Alaska, and she also likes the freedom which this kind of life provides to her.

When she had the option to leave Alaska with her first husband, she stayed and let him go on his own. She is interested in guns and had books to read about them before she was ready to choose her own. Her knife is custom made for all purposes, and it helps her when hunting, and working around her house. Agnes is keen on reading in her spare time next to her fire at home – some of her favorite genres are books based on true historic events, and crime detective dramas.

Agnes is a big lover of animals, and although she kills them for their coats and meat, she believes this is just the food chain, and she always apologizes to the animal after she takes its life.

Appearance and net worth

Agnes is 47 years old. She has medium long black hair and blue eyes, is 5ft 3ins (1.61m) tall, and weighs around 121lbs (55kgs). On her chin, Agnes has tattooed stripes which represent maturity and her reaching of puberty – it means that a woman has grown and become serious, and that she shouldn’t spend much time laughing and fooling around. Her net worth is estimated at over $400,000, which she has gathered largely from her role in the “Life Below Zero” TV series.

I really like “Life Below Zero” as a show. I have not seen any new ones in the last couple of years, but, the reruns are still good to watch, even tho I have seen some before. When Sue Aikens took her spill on the snowmobile, I thought that was a Real Dumb thins to do, speeding across the Ice. Didn’t know it was staged, and, was glad to see she Sued the Producer ‘s . But, afterwards when she started beating the “shit” out of the snowmobile, after her recovery, I lost a ton of respect for Her. It was her fault, not, the machine’s. And that machine is probably worth $10,000.00 ,more or less. Talk about Dumb and Dumber. Really like the Hailstones and Glen V. Those are my favourite two group and single of the Show. Chip and Agnes and family really are the people of the North. Glen is very “Primitive” in his ways, which is really good too. No Modern crap for Him. Great Show, for the most part.
