Zachary George Roerig was born in Montpelier, Ohio USA, on 22 February 1985 – his zodiac sign is Pisces and he holds American nationality. He is an actor, probably best known for portraying Casey Hughes in the “As the World Turns” and Hunter Atwood in the “One Life to Live”, both TV soap operas.

Early life and education

Zach was raised in Montpelier by his mother Andrea who was born in 1963, and his father Daniel Roerig who was born in 1961. and who died in 2007 from a heart attack. Zach has one younger sister named Emily, born in 1989.

After finishing elementary school, Zach enrolled at the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School located in Cleveland, and his participation at the International Modeling and Talent Association led to him signing his first contract with his late talent manager. He went on to attend Montpelier High School where he was physically very active, playing football and wrestling, and at the same time working at Fackler Monuments owned by his father and grandfather, where he helped them make gravestones.

Career as an actor

Zach made his debut film appearance playing Jason Matthews in the “Flutter Kick” short film in 2005, and in 2007 portrayed Teenage Joe in the “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” award winning film. The year 2008 saw him play Matt Mullen in “Assassination of a High School President”, Adam in “Dear Me”, and The American Soldier in “Official Selection”.

He then took a break from movies for six years, before winning the role of Jack Stanard in the “Field of Lost Shoes” war drama film in 2014, and in 2016 appearing as Edward Wehling in the “2BR02b” short film.

He went on to portray Carter in “Rings” and “Mikey” in “The Year of Spectacular Men” in 2017 while his two latest roles in movies have been in “The Outer Wild” in 2018, and “The Last Full Measure” which is set to be released in 2020. Zach is better known for the roles he has had in TV series – he made his debut appearance playing Rollerblade Messenger in the “All in the Family” episode of “Law & Order” in 2004. In 2005, he began portraying Casey Hughes in “As the World Turns” which is the role that made him famous and which he held through to 2 May 2007.

In 2006 he portrayed Grady Love in “Split Decision”, and 2007 saw him appear in two TV series, entitled “Guiding Light” and “One Life to Life” in 15 episodes portraying Hunter Atwood. He could have been seen playing Taft in “The Prince” in 2008 as well as Cash in “Friday Night Lights” appearing in six episodes in 2008 and 2009. Zach won the role of Matt Donovan (as well as of Silas, Gregor, Ethan Maxwell, and Klaus Mikealson) in “The Vampire Diaries” supernatural teen drama TV series, appearing in numerous episodes from 2009 to 2017 which made him popular all around the world, as the series turned out to be a major hit.

He was dedicated to the shooting of these series and did not appear in any other until 2016, when he reprised his role as Matt Donovan in a single episode of “The Originals”. Zach began dating Alana Turner in 2007 after the two met at a local bar in Los Angeles, they dated for three years before Alana was left pregnant, and gave birth to their daughter Fiona in January 2011.

The two never married, and shortly after Fiona was born the two split, with Alana having full custody over the girl. In the summer of 2013, Alana was incarcerated in a federal prison and Zach used this occasion to file legal papers in Georgia and seek full custody of his daughter. Zach is very close to actress Amanda Seyfried who is his best friend, and is best known for her roles in movies such as “Mamma Mia!”, “Mean Girls”, and “Les Miserables”.
