Early Life and Education
Raina was raised by her parents in Minnesota alongside a brother. At a young age, she didn’t think that she would become a model, as she was an awkward, quiet nerd, very shy and as a result didn’t have a lot of friends. During high school, a lot of her peers and teachers discovered her talent for volleyball, which would eventually lead her to a scholarship thanks to the sport.
She enrolled at Concordia University of St. Paul, to complete a degree in mass communications. The liberal arts university is located in Minnesota, and has history dating back to 1893. It has over 5,000 students enrolled annually, and is a member of the Concordia University System which operates the second largest Lutheran church body in the US. America’s Next Top Model and Rise to Fame
Prior to starting her college education, Hein was chosen to become one of the 13 girls who would compete in the show “America’s Next Top Model” in New York. The reality TV competition show follows aspiring models who aim to win the title of America’s Next Top Model, and kick start their careers as professional models. The show was created by Tyra Banks, and is the originator of the “Top Model” franchise which has 30 versions internationally. During her time with the show, she had her highs and lows – she led the girls in several episodes, although in one she was in danger of elimination, due to her lack of experience with edgy photos.
She eventually made it to the finals of the show, where she competed against Krista White. She received a lot of compliments for her photos, fresh look, and cover girl quality, but the judges felt that Krista would become more of an international star, leading Hein to finish as the runner-up of the cycle. This did not derail her career, however, as soon after the show, she started being featured in numerous publications, including “Cliché Botique”, “Seventeen Magazine”, “Metro Magazine”, “Cosmopolitan Indonesia”, and “Glamor Couture Magazine”.
After completing her degree, Raina started travelling around the world to do modelling work. She continued her publication work with projects in “Women’s Health Magazine”, and “Treats Magazine”. In 2012, she worked on the parody of the Lady Gaga song “Bad Romance” entitled “Bat Romance”, which follows several Batman characters as they express their love for him; she portrayed the character Catwoman in the music video. One of her latest projects is the independent film entitled “Zombies”, which as the title denotes, follows several characters as they navigate a world ridden with zombies. She was also one of the brides featured in the Maroon 5 music video, “Sugar”.
