Early life and education

Luke was raised in Suffolk by his parents who are running a photographic and fine arts studio. He has a sister who is an art teacher at several institutions, and an older brother who studied physics and is now a professor of neuroradiology. Luke studied at a high school in Suffolk before enrolling at the University of Wales, before switching to University of Massachusetts Amherst graduating with a bachelor’s degree in American Studies.

He continued his education at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, graduating in 2000. Luke grew up being interested in acting, while he was also interested in sports playing soccer, all four years at high school continuing to play while attending university.

Career as an actor

Luke made his debut film appearance playing Bruce in “Ambition” in 2005, with his next notable appearance was in “Pull”, portraying Luke. He gained recognition after he played the captain of the guard in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” in 2011, and was then cast to play the lead role in “Dracula: The Dark Prince” in 2013.

The movie follows Dracula in his search for the Lightbringer, while crossing paths with a beautiful crusader called Alina who resembles his murdered bride. He kidnaps the girl and takes her to his castle where he has to win her heart. The movie received poor critiques, while Luke was praised for his performance. He went on to play Butcher in “300: Rise of an Empire” in 2014, and has recently been cast to play Draka in the film “Dampyr”, set to be released in 2021.

He made his debut TV series appearance in the “Crossroads” episode of “Band Brothers” in 2001, then rejoined the “Crossroads” cast portraying Ryan Samson in 2003.

He then appeared in single episodes of several TV series, such as “Uncle Max” in 2006, “Law & Order: UK” in 2011, and “Beauty & the Beast” in 2013.

His next notable role came in 2016, when he was cast to portray Woodes Rogers in “Black Sails” appearing in 20 episodes, while his latest appearances have been in “Game of Thrones” in 2016, and “Ransom” from 2017 to 2019, in which he played the lead role as Eric Beaumont. Additionally, Luke lent his voice to the Nameless Hero character in the “Risen 2: Dark Waters” video game in 2012.

Love life and wife

Luke met Freema Agyeman on the set of the “Crossroads” TV series in 2003, but the two didn’t start dating until meeting again in 2011 on the set of “Law & Order: UK” TV series – they only announced their relationship on their social media accounts in 2014.
