Laura Zerra was born on the 16th September 1985, in Agawam, Massachusetts USA, the daughter of Steven Zerra and his wife Elizabeth. She grew up fond of her father and his adventurous way of life – they would often venture on hunting trips together, which Laura much enjoyed as a young girl. For her education, after high school Laura enrolled at Connecticut College, from which she obtained a degree in Ethnobiology.

After two years, Laura started learning equine hoof care, and began lecturing at Sharp Shoeing in Belmont, New Hampshire, while also working at Baker River Deer Farm.
