Joshua Paul ‘Josh’ Mankiewicz was born in Berkeley, California USA, on 27 August 1955 – his zodiac sign is Virgo, and he holds American nationality. He’s a journalist who’s probably known best for the work which he’s done for the American weekly TV news magazine show “Dateline NBC”, which he joined back in 1995.

Early life and education

Josh was raised alongside his younger brother Ben, who’s a radio and prime-time host at Turner Classic Movies, by their Jewish father Frank Mankiewicz who was the late US Senator and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy’s press secretary, and their Mormon mother Holly (nee Jolley) who was a housewife.

Josh’s grandfather was the famous American screenwriter Herman Jacob Mankiewicz, and he’s also related to American film producer and director Joseph Leo Mankiewicz, American screenwriter and director Thomas Frank Mankiewicz and American film writer, producer and director Nick Davis.

Looking up to his family, Josh knew from a very early age that he would focus on his education and pursue a college degree. He was interested in numerous activities while attending a local high school, while he was perhaps mostly into sports during those four years; Josh played many but particularly football and soccer.

Upon matriculating in 1973, he moved to Haverford, Pennsylvania and enrolled at Haverford College, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 1977.

Career as a journalist

Not a lot is known about Josh’s early career, as he became popular only after having joined “Dateline NBC” in 1995. It’s known that he launched his career straight out of college and that he travelled around the US as he worked for various TV stations; prior to joining NBC, Josh spent a couple of years working at ABC News.

He has since covered numerous stories for “Dateline NBC”, as well as several other NBC shows such as “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly”, “NBC Nightly News”, and “The Today Show”.

He’s today probably known best for two things – his report on the Atkins diet, which helped him lose 50lbs (21kgs), and Josh showed his progress in his show, revealing that the diet really works. It was devised by Robert Atkins sometime in the ‘70s and is a low-carbohydrate diet; it became popular because it claims that one can eat as many calories as they want but have to stay away from carbohydrates.

Health and diet experts believe this diet to be no good, because it ‘promotes unlimited consumption of protein and saturated fat’, which improves one’s risk of developing a heart disease.

The other notable story was when Josh hosted “The Mank Blog” in 2006, when he was working as a correspondent; it featured him presenting to his viewers what people were talking about on the internet, and Josh seemed to dislike the netizens (citizens of the internet), and thus didn’t shy away from criticizing them and calling them names.

In 2015, Josh won a News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Feature Story in a News Magazine, as well as another Emmy for Best Report in a News Magazine.

Josh prefers to keep the details of his love life to himself, but it’s still widely known that he’s today a married man.Josh and his future wife Anh Tu Dang met in 2009 while they were stuck in line at Los Angeles International Airport, so they thank the Transportation Security Administration procedures for that – Anh was standing in front of Josh and he struck up a conversation because he thought that she was stunning; he learned her name, gave her his business card, and later also found out that she was a divorcee and the owner of CareWorks Health Service, a home health care business in Laguna Hills, California.

Four weeks after having met at the airport, Anh called the phone number on Josh’s business card and he invited her to dinner. They dated for two months on-and-off and then stopped seeing each other; they met again four years later, and were married three years into their relationship, in 2016.

As of April 2022, Josh’s married to Anh Tu Dang, and he doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Josh has travelled all around the US for both work and pleasure, and he and Anh have already vacationed in various European countries, while their favorite seems to be France.
