He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, but relocated to West Virginia to pursue his career. Reportedly, since his youth he has been interested in machines, and eventually chose this hobby to become his life-path. Johnny is low-profile about his family, but we do know that he has a grandson. The rumors about Johnny being dead circulated the internet, but luckily all of them turned out to be fake – he is alive and is still actively working.
“Barnwood Builders”, the series Johnny is best known for, began airing in late 2013, attracting attention from the audience early on.
It displays the everyday lives of a team of builders who work on converting historic barns and log cabins, and turning them into a variety of relatively modern buildings. The series can also be watched on Great American Country and the DIY Network.
Johnny’s Co-Star, Mark Bowe Short Bio
Besides Johnny, the series also features Mark Bowe and his West Virginia Company. Johnny’s colleague Mark was born on 6 March 1970 in the USA, and is known as a hard-working man, whose mantra is “Work Hard, Be Kind. Take Pride”.
"I'm Mark Bowe and I'm getting into the cabin business." "I'm Johnny Jett and I'm getting out of the cabin business!"…
Just like his colleague, Mark has had numerous DIY projects, which can be found on his official website. Mark is in a relationship with the Virginia House of Delegates candidate Cindy Lavander-Bowe, with whom he has a son named Atticus. Reportedly, the couple has been together for more than 20 years; they met through friends and attended the same school, but the sparks didn’t fly instantly. In one interview, the reality star revealed that he and Cindy knew each other by name, adding that he “worked the magic” later on.
He has a net worth of over $1 million and a salary of over $60,000.
Johnny let his supporters take a sneak peek into his life in 2016 – they got a chance to ask him anything, and he would answer from his Reddit profile. Having been asked how he achieves such success in his field, he simply replied that it’s the years of experience. Another person asked him about the place that surprised him the most, and he stated that it was the 4 Corners of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Colorado, adding that he liked the diversity of animals and plants.
Some clips from “Barnwood Builders” can be found on YouTube, and videos such as “Log cabin simplicity: recrafting pioneer tiny homes in corn Iowa”, “THE TRUTH… about Log Cabins… and Log Homes” and “Barnwood Builders S08E02 – Hidden History” have been watched thousands of times.
In August 2019, the crew travelled to Waynesboro, Virginia, having found a possible barn to make-over. The owners of the Barn, Debbie Battle and her husband sent a photo of their log cabin to Mark Bowe, which was ultimately turned into a wedding chapel.
“We just love the idea of having a chapel. We thought it would be a great photo op for the brides that are coming, and it’s just something old and preserved like our barn is”, Battle said.
“Barnwood Builders” also visited Emerickville, to save a 1853 barn owned by Norma Shuckers. The farm belonged to the great-grandfather of Don Shuckers, and was used in raising beef cattle. Norma said that she was offered a price for the farm, but her son wouldn’t let her do anything before he reached out to the Barnwood Builders.
The family was contacted by Bowe and his co-workers, and shortly afterwards there was an inspection to check if timbers could be saved. One of the executives of the series, Chiara Hollended, went on to say that the barn was in great condition, considering how old it was.
The team also worked in Ohio, where they collaborated with people from West Virginia University. Bowe, awed by their work and compassion, said that he’s proud of those young people, and that they give him hope for the future.
He also thought that it was a good way to give them such an experience that would help them grow.
Another prominent part for the group was teamwork. While they were building, the group ran into some problems that would make their work harder, but they easily fixed it with brainstorming. “I learned that you can’t do everything on your own, and it’s okay to ask for help”, Mark concluded.
