Early life and family

Carlos Emmanuel Olivero was born into the family of a Puerto-Rican father and Mexican mother, on 16 July 1989, in Chicago, Illinois USA, so under the sign of Cancer, and holding American nationality. He started dancing and singing very early, as his father and his aunt were break dancers from their early school years. He was always surrounded by artistic people, and from birth absorbed a love of performing. His parents, whose names are still unknown, bought him a karaoke machine as a birthday present, and he spent hours training in singing.

He participated in various singing competitions from when he was in high school, choosing mainly the songs from ‘N Sync and Elvis Presley’s repertoire. Carlos also took his stage name “Carlito” as he adores the crime drama “Carlito’s Way” (1993), with Al Pacino in the leading role.

Joining Menudo band

The band “Menudo” was originally formed in 1977, and was one of the most popular Latin music bands; however, the band stopped releasing albums and touring in 1997. The authorities of the MTV channel decided to make up a reality show, finding a new squad for the band. The show was launched on 25 October 2007; Carlito got to the final of the show, joining the band and singing with it until 2009, as “Menudo” then disbanded. Carlito benefited a lot from his singing in the band, as he toured around the US and other countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, etc.

Solo music career

After leaving “Menudo”, Carlito tried himself as a solo singer, releasing two singles in 2011 and 2012, entitled “Rain” and “Love Letter”. Later he released his album “D.D.B.R.W.S.” (2015) which included 11 tracks in the genres of R&B, hip-hop and rap. The album was produced by Dem Jointz, known as Dwayne Abernathy, Jr., whose producing experience has such stars on his list as Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Dr. Dre and Janet Jackson. The most successful single from the album was “Pon Ya Body”, and the music video for the track was released on 25 January 2015, even before the album was out (on 16 July 2015. The video now has more than 6.5 million views on YouTube.

Carlito also collaborated with Royalty, being featured in his song “Brown Eyed Girl” (2010); Baby Bash and Printz Board participating in recording of their song “Hit Me (BBM Me) If You Miss Me” (2011); and J. Dash, joining his track “Tabloid Truth” (2012).

The X Factor

In 2013 Carlito participated in “The X Factor USA”. Joining the cast of the third season, Carlito made it to the final, holding third place and mentored by Paulina Rubio. During the show Carlito tried himself not only in hip-hop and R&B, but also stepped out of his comfort zone to perform some of Santana’s songs, and Justin Bieber’s hits.

Acting career

Carlito started his acting career in 2012, appearing in the episode “Virtual Love” of the third season of “Rizzoli & Isles” (2010 – 2016). After that he landed the role of Paco in the movie “We The Party” (2012), playing along with Snoop Dogg and other legendary hip-hop personalities. In 2014 Carlito played Raphael in the comedy-drama “Chocolate City”, also appearing as Teddy in the super popular series “Modern Family” the same year, playing Alex’s boyfriend in the episode “Strangers in the Night”. From 2015 Carlito started appearing in indie video and web television series, such as “East Los High” (2015), “Breaking Through” (2015) and “Step Up: High Water” (2018 – 2019), in which he landed the role of Davis Jimenez.
