Benny was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa USA, on 27 May 1987 – his zodiac sign is Gemini, and he holds American nationality. He’s a political columnist, who gained recognition when he was hired to work at the American internet media and entertainment company BuzzFeed, while he’s today the chief creative officer (CCO) of the non-profit organization Turning Point USA.

Early life and education

Benny was raised in Cedar Rapids by his parents, about whom little is known because he respects their privacy; it’s believed that both his parents are academically educated, that his father was a doctor and his mother a psychologist.

Because he hasn’t spoken of having any siblings, most of Benny’s fans believe him to be an only child.

He became interested in journalism while attending a local high school, but was also into sports, playing football for the school’s team. Benny became interested in travelling during those four years, mostly because his parents occasionally went on business trips and took him with them.

Upon matriculating in 2005, Benny enrolled at the University of Iowa, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in developmental psychology in 2009.

Career as a journalist

Benny started attracting attention in 2010, when some of his articles were published on the syndicated news, opinion and commentary website Breitbart News Network.

The following year saw him employed at the American conservative company Blaze Media, then in 2012, he joined BuzzFeed as their staff writer.

BuzzFeed took a closer look at Benny’s writings in July 2014, and learned that he had plagiarized close to 10 percent of his work; Benny apologized for this, but was still fired from BuzzFeed. Only a month later, he started working at the American monthly conservative editorial magazine “National Review” as their digital director, and in the first half of 2015, he became a creative content contributor for the conservative news and opinion website Independent Journal Review (IJR), but it was after only a couple of months at IJR that Benny was once again accused of plagiarizing his work.

He was suspended by IJR in 2017 for an article which he had helped write, and which claimed that the former US President Barack Obama’s visit to Hawaii had something to do with the US District Judge Derrick Watson’s blocking of Executive Order 13780. He had previously been warned that the story might mean that IJR was promoting conspiracy theories, but Benny went on to help writing it anyway, and was thus suspended. Not long after that, he verbally abused several IJR staffers, which led to some of them resigning, and Benny was firstly demoted for violating the company’s ethics, then fired in October 2017.

Since November 2017, he has been working for the right-wing news and opinion website The Daily Caller, and is today also hosting his own show “The Benny Report”, which airs on NewsMax TV.
