Ashley was raised in Bethesda by her father Bruce Parker who was the president of the Washington D.C. trade organization Environmental Industries Association, and her mother Betty who was a housewife; because Ashley hasn’t spoken of having any siblings, most of her fans believe her to be an only child.

Ashley matriculated in 2001, and then enrolled at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, while she spent several months of her first year in Spain, attending La Universidad de Seville; she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in English and communications in 2005.
Ashley began working as an intern at the American daily newspapers “The New York Sun” and “Gaithersburg Gazette”, the latter owned by “The Washington Post”.
