Early Life, Childhood and Education
Justin was born under the zodiac sign of Libra on the 18th October 1981, in Los Angeles, California, USA, one of three children of Marilou Cantiller and Ken Hakuta who was a popular TV personality in the early 1990s.
Justin is of American nationality of Filipino descent through his mother, and of Korean ancestry from his father’s side. He has two younger siblings named Kenzo and Aki Hakuta.
After matriculating from Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. Justin enrolled at Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Mexico. He later enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from which he graduated in 2003, after which he obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.
Father Ken Hakuta
Paik Kun was born in 1951 in Seoul, South Korea and is the firstborn child of Paik Nam-il who was an executive of Taechang Textile Industry Co. which was co-founded by Kun’s grandfather Paik Nak Seung. Shortly after his birth, his family relocated to Japan, where he spent the majority of his childhood and changed his name to Ken Hakuta before moving to the States. He came Into the limelight in the early 1980s, when he created the Wacky Wall Walker – one of the bestselling toys of the era, with over 240 million units sold, earning over $20 million in revenue.
Between 1988 and 1994, he hosted his own television invention show called “Dr Fad”, promoting inventiveness and creativity in children, while in 1998 he launched AllHerb.com, an e-commerce company specializing in herbal remedies.
Career
Justin began his professional career as a developer at the DirectTV DLab, an LA-based digital innovation laboratory focused on creating new digital products. In 2011, he joined the startup company GoodRx as a product manager, comparing the prices of prescription drugs throughout the US, and offering lower drug costs and drug coupons.
Later that year, Hakuta combined his ‘knack for entrepreneurship’ and his passion for meditation and healthy lifestyle, and launched YogaStart, an online resource focused on finding wellness services and yoga classes in the States.
Justin also used his knowledge about yoga and wellness to contribute to the Huffington Post with a series of health-related articles, as well as to collaborate with several companies such as Seventh Generation Inc., Honest Tea and Patagonia Outdoor Clothing & Gear.
Marriage with Ali Wong
Justin Hakuta and Ali Wong first met in 2010, at the wedding ceremony of a mutual friend. She invited him to attend one of her stand-up performances, after which they began dating. ‘Enthralled’ by her performance, Justin attended almost every one of her shows during Ali’s early career, not only supporting her but helping her to adjust and improve her material as well. After building their relationship for four years, the couple brought it to a higher level and tied the knot in a wedding ceremony on the 27th November 2014.
They welcomed their first child in November of the following year, a daughter they named Mari, while in December 2017 they were blessed with another daughter they named Nikki. With his family, Justin currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

She attended San Francisco University High School from which she matriculated. before enrolling at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), obtaining her degree majoring in Asian American studies. As a member of its LCC Theatre Company Ali discovered her passion for acting and performing, which led her to New York City, where she dived into the world of stand-up comedy.
