Early Life and Career Beginnings

There are very few details that have been shared about Sterling’s life before his rise to fame as an actor. He has not mentioned a lot about his family, except that he grew up in Hilton Head Island alongside a brother and a sister. He developed an interest in acting at a young age, and began his professional career with local stage productions, leading to his on-camera debut in minor roles, in projects such as “Career Day”.

Eventually, he was given a small role in an episode of “Hannah Montana”, in which he played Lucas, Lily’s boyfriend. In 2007, he appeared in two episodes of “The Closer” before making a guest appearance in both “Grey’s Anatomy”, and “Out of Jimmy’s Head”. In 2009, he started to gain fame when he appeared as Chad Dylan Cooper in the Disney Channel show “Sonny with a Chance”; the film follows the experience of the titular character played by Demi Lovato, who actually becomes a part of her favorite television show.

Continued Rise to Fame

While working on “Sonny with a Chance”, he had his first major role in the film “17 Again”, playing the character Alex O’Donnell who is the son of Matthew Perry/Zac Efron’s character. The comedy film follows the story of a 37 year old who becomes his 17 year old self after an accident. In 2010, Knight was then cast in the Disney Channel Original Movie called “Starstruck” as the teen heart-throb Christopher Wilde,  starring in the film alongside Danielle Campbell.

His next project was “Elle: A Modern Cinderella Tale”, in which he appeared alongside Ashlee Hewitt. In the film, he plays a singer/songwriter who is looking for change in his music, then meeting a girl inside a recording studio which motivates him to try and find her. The movie premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival. In 2011; he then returned to Disney as he was cast to be a part of the “Sonny with a Chance” spin-off entitled “So Random!” which included many of the actors from the original show, but The series only ran for one season before it was cancelled.

Recent Projects

In 2012, Sterling was cast in the action film “Transit” alongside Jim Caviezel and Elisabeth Rohm – directed by Antonio Negret, it received mixed reviews. He then made a guest appearance in “Melissa & Joey” as the character Zander before starring in the Hulu exclusive entitled “The Hotwives of Orlando”. The sitcom was produced as a parody of the reality television franchise “The Real Housewives”, following several fictional women residing in Orlando, Florida. The show aired for two seasons with different characters for each. After working on the action drama film entitled “Landmine Goes Click”, his next project would be a guest starring role in 2016’s “Crowded”, playing the love interest of Miranda Cosgrove.

The following year, he starred in the go90 comedy series entitled “In the Rough” playing Cameron Fullbright. He also had a supporting role in the film “Different Flowers”, and was then cast in “The Man from Earth: Holocene”, based on characters created by science fiction writer Jerome Bixby, and is a sequel to “The Man From Earth”. The film was released to The Pirate Bay, legally free to be downloaded as stated by the creators. In 2022 the appeared as Art in the film “It Snows All the Time”, and is starring in an upcoming show entitled “Katy Keene” which is currently filming.

Personal Life and Social Media

Knight was engaged to actress Ayla Kell whom he met on the set of “Melissa & Joey” in 2014. The two dated for four years before becoming engaged, but then separated in 2029. She’s known for her work in the ABC show entitled “Make It or Break It” in which she played Payson Keeler.

He enjoys making music, playing the guitar and singing, even releasing music from time to time. He is reported to be a part of a band called Connecting Channels, though it is not known if the band is still together.
