There are very few details that have been shared about Sterling’s life before his rise to fame as an actor. He has not mentioned a lot about his family, except that he grew up in Hilton Head Island alongside a brother and a sister. He developed an interest in acting at a young age, and began his professional career with local stage productions, leading to his on-camera debut in minor roles in projects such as “Career Day”.

Continued Rise to Fame
While working on “Sonny with a Chance”, he had his first major role in the film “17 Again”, playing the character Alex O’Donnell who is the son of Matthew Perry/Zac Efron’s character. The comedy film follows the story of a 37 year old who becomes his 17 year old self after an accident. In 2010, Knight was then cast in the Disney Channel Original Movie called “Starstruck” as the teen heart-throb Christopher Wilde. He starred in the film alongside Danielle Campbell.
His next project was “Elle: A Modern Cinderella Tale”, in which he appeared alongside Ashlee Hewitt. In the film, he plays a singer/songwriter who is looking for change in his music, then meeting a girl inside a recording studio which motivates him to try and find her. The movie premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival. In 2011, he returned to Disney as he was cast to be a part of the “Sonny with a Chance” spin-off called “So Random!” which included many of the actors from the original show. The series only ran for one season before it was cancelled.

A year later, Sterling was cast in the action film “Transit” alongside Jim Caviezel and Elisabeth Rohm – directed by Antonio Negret, it received mixed reviews. He then made a guest appearance in “Melissa & Joey” as the character Zander before starring in the Hulu exclusive entitled “The Hotwives of Orlando”. The sitcom was produced as a parody of the reality television franchise “The Real Housewives”, following several fictional women residing in Orlando, Florida. The show aired for two seasons with different characters for each. After working on the action drama film entitled “Landmine Goes Click”, his next project would be a guest starring role in 2016’s “Crowded” playing the love interest of Miranda Cosgrove.
The following year, he starred in the go90 comedy series entitled “In the Rough” playing Cameron Fullbright. He also had a supporting role in the film “Different Flowers”, and was then cast in “The Man from Earth: Holocene”, based from characters created by science fiction writer Jerome Bixby, and is a sequel to “The Man From Earth”.
