Who is Glory Johnson?
American basketball player Glory Bassey Johnson was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado USA, on 27 July 1990, making Leo her zodiac sign. She’s today playing for the Turkish basketball team Besiktas of the Herbalife Nutrition Women’s Basketball Super League; Glory holds a Montenegrin passport as well, and has played for the Montenegrin national team.
Education and early life
Glory was raised alongside her sisters Judy and Grace in Colorado Springs, by their mother Mercy Bassey Johnson and father Udofot Bassey Johnson; not many details have been shared about Glory’s family, as she respects their privacy.
She became passionate about basketball while attending Webb School of Knoxville, and played for their women’s team; Glory was into a couple of other activities during her teenage years, as she played soccer and occasionally appeared in school plays.
She matriculated in 2008, and then enrolled at the University of Tennessee, Lady Vois on a basketball scholarship; during her four years playing basketball there, Glory recorded 36 doublesdoubles. She matriculated with a Bachelor’s degree in global studies in 2011, and in 2012 earned her Master’s degree in communications.
Glory’s basketball career
Glory traveled to Shenzhen, China in 2011 to represent the US at the Summer Universiade; they won all of their six games and thus the gold medal. Glory averaged nine steals and 6.2 points per game, tying for second place in her team.
She was picked by the Tulsa Shock in the 2012 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) Draft; Glory ranked fourth in steals during her rookie season. She was named to the Western Conference All-Star team in both 2013 and 2014, but had to skip the 2015 season as she was on a maternity leave.
Glory was suspended for the first month of the 2016 season because of her and now-former wife’s domestic violence incident; her team Tulsa Shock then relocated to Dallas, Texas and changed their name to Dallas Wings – Glory signed a new contract with them. She started six of 18 games, averaging 11 points per game, while she also scored her career high 23 points in a game against the Phoenix Mercury.
She scored a new career high 27 points in a win against the Washington Mystics on 18 June 2017, and was on 6 August named Western Conference Player of the Week. The Wings defeated the Atlanta Dream on 19 August 2017, in which Glory recorded her 13th double-double, but in the same game punched Dream’s Mattee Ajavon, which led to a one-game suspension.
Glory’s 2018 season was plagued by injuries, but the Wings nevertheless reached the play-offs, defeated in the first round by the Phoenix Mercury.
Playing overseas
Glory spent three off-seasons playing for Russian teams Nadezhda Orenburg and Chevakata Vologda from 2012 through 2015, and she then played for Xinjiang Tiashan Deers of the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association in the 2016 and 2017 off-seasons.
She signed a contract with Hatay BB of the Turkish League in August 2018, and has since 2019 been playing for Besiktas.

Glory rarely speaks about her love life in public, but has revealed that she’s lesbian; it’s also known that she was once a married woman.
Glory and American professional basketball player Brittney Yevette Griner revealed on 14 August 2014 that they’d become engaged, but they were arrested on 22 April 2015 after having physically attacked one another at their home in Goodyear, Arizona. The two reconciled and married in a private ceremony on 8 May 2015; Glory announced her pregnancy via IVF treatment (sperm donation) on 4 June 2015, but only a day later, Brittney filed for annulment of their marriage – it was rejected.
Glory gave birth to her twin daughters Solei Diem and Ava Simone on 12 October 2015, born 16 weeks prematurely, but are today healthy.
Glory and Brittney’s divorce was finalized in June 2016.
She seems to be single as of June 2023, was once married to Brittney Yevette Griner, and has twin daughters.
