Career of a bodybuilder

As soon as she received her bachelor’s degree, Cory started going to the gym and focused on lifting weights. She entered her first competition in 1980 – Ms. Mid America – and then went on to pose on the stage at the IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championships in 1981.

The competition did not go as planned, as Cory was taken to a hospital due to sharp pain she felt in her left foot – she was diagnosed with blood clots, and almost had to have her foot amputated.

She didn’t allow this to slow her down, as she went on to compete at 13 shows during the next three years winning eight of them. In 1984, she competed at the NPC Nationals and won, which meant she was qualified to compete at the Ms. Olympia 1984.

She became part of the IFBB Hall of Fame in 1999, and was inducted into the Muscle Beach Venice Bodybuilding Hall of Fame on 5 September 2005; in 2007 during Arnold Classic, she was given the Lifetime Achievement Award, the first woman ever to win it.   • Fourth place goes to Betty Pariso – she was the world’s oldest professional female bodybuilder while she was still competing. She has won numerous competitions while her recent first place was at the IFBB Tampa Bay Pro held in 2009;
  • In third place is Nicole Bass, who is also an actress, professional wrestler, and a valet – she has appeared in numerous shows, and has worked for several companies, including Extreme Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Federation;

Jeff was working at the University as a strength coach, and was a competitive bodybuilder which is what made Cory fall for him – they exchanged their wedding vows in 1982, and launched their own mail-ordering clothing store entitled “Sampson and Delilah”.

The two adopted a child from Russia and are both active members of the Nightlight Christian Adoptions institution which brings orphanage children from Russia and Belarus to the US for adoption.

The two divorced in 1996 for unknown reasons, but Cory decided to keep Everson as her stage name.

In 1998, she married Dr. Steve Donia who works as a cosmetic dentist – they have two kids together, both of whom were adopted from Russia.

  1. The photo of her in pool wearing the red bathing suit looks photoshopped. I don’t think she ever had guns that big or a back that wide.
