Who is Matthew Underwood?
American actor Matthew Underwood was born in Fort Pierce, Florida USA, on 23 April 1990, making Taurus his zodiac sign. He has 19 acting credits, and is perhaps still known best for portraying Logan Reese in all 61 episodes of the popular family comedy series “Zoey 101”, which starred Paul Butcher and Jamie Lynn Spears, and was created by Scott Fellows. It follows Dustin and Zoey Brooks who’ve just enrolled at Pacific Coast Academy, the series aired from 2005 through 2008 and won 13 of its 37 award nominations.
Matthew’s still active in the film industry, and is currently shooting for the upcoming movie “Zoey 102”.
Education and early life
Matthew was raised alongside his sister Rebecca and brothers Jacob and Joshua in Fort Pierce, by their father Jerry Wayne Underwood and mother Patricia; his cousin Carrie Underwood’s a country music star. Not many other details have been shared about Matthew’s family, as he respects their privacy.
He became interested in acting at a very early age and was nine when he launched his career by voicing a character in the English version of the Japanese animated family comedy movie “My Neighbors the Yamadas”. It starred Toru Masuoka and Yukiji Asaoka, was directed by Isao Takahata, and follows a family living in contemporary Japan.
Matthew studied at a local high school in Los Angeles, California, the family having moved there for him to pursue acting; he matriculated in 2008, and then didn’t enroll at college.

In 2002, Matthew appeared in the family drama “The Wishing Stone”, which starred Sharon Cline and Rob Ball, and was written and directed by Jose H. Garofalo; it follows ‘a young friendship in tumultuous times’.
In 2004, Matthew played Child in the family drama “The Marionette”, and was then in 2006 cast to appear in the horror thriller “Damnation of Souls” and the short drama “Web Journal Now”. The same year, he voiced Thatch in the animated family comedy “Casper’s Scare School”, which starred Billy West and John DiMaggio, and was directed by Mark Gravas. It follows Casper who’s been assigned by the scare school to scare humans, including his human friend.
Matthew appeared in the 2008 action “Reality Horror Night”, and his following film role came in 2017, when cast to appear in the family drama “The Magic Studio”, which failed to attract any attention.
Also in 2017, he played Matt in the comedy “The Golden Stars”, and the following year saw him star as Caesar in the short fantasy “Time Hoppers”. Matthew next starred in two short movies in 2019: the family fantasy “The Alien” and the family drama “The Unicorn Sisters”.
He appeared in the 2020 short music video “Jamie Lynn Spears & Chantel Jeffries: Follow Me”, and most recently, in 2021, Matthew starred in the short drama “Remi”.
Roles in TV series
Matthew’s appeared in only four TV series, including “Zoey 101”. His debut TV series role was playing a supporting character in the 2002 drama “Go For It!’, which failed to attract any attention, then the year 2004 saw him portray Bully in the episode “Pilot” of the musical comedy “Method & Red”, which starred Redman and Method Man, and was created by Kell Cahoon. It follows two rappers as they’ve moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in New Jersey.
Matthew’s only other TV series role has been voicing Hide in the 2007 episode “The Headband” of the critically acclaimed animated action adventure “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, which starred Zach Tyler Eisen and Dee Bradley Baker, and was created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino. It follows a young boy who’s about to bring peace to the world, the series aired from 2005 through 2008, and won nine of its 15 award nominations; the website IMDb ranks the series #7 best of all time.
Other credits
Matthew has eight directing credits, with some of his most recent directing work being the short family fantasy film “The Alien”, the short family movie “The Unicorn Sisters”, and the short drama “Dr. Pepper”, all in 2019.
Some of his recent talk-show appearances have been in “Comedy Whacked!”, “All That” and “Thanks for Coming In”.
Awards and nominations
Matthew won two Young Artist Awards for Best Young Ensemble Performance in a TV Series (Comedy or Drama) in 2006 and 2007, both for his and his colleagues’ performance in “Zoey 101”.
They were nominated for three other Young Artist Awards in 2006, 2008 and 2009, also for “Zoey 101”.
Love life and relationships
Matthew’s yet to speak about his love life in public, and thus the names of the girls whom he’s dated haven’t been disclosed.
It’s known that he was in a relationship with an underage girl in 2012, when he was 22 years old; the two were arrested together for being in possession of weed and the drug paraphernalia, and it’s believed that they broke up not long after this. Matthew was put on probation, but violated it in the same year and was thus arrested; it’s believed that he then spent some time in jail.
He seems to be unattached as of June 2023, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

In April 2017, Matthew saved a baby from a car crash, and was praised for his heroic actions; it was later revealed that the baby’s parents were under the influence of drugs.
