Who is Erica Hill?

Erica Ruth Hill was born in Clinton, Connecticut USA, on 20 July 1976 – her zodiac sign is Cancer, and she holds American nationality. She’s a journalist who’s probably known best for the work which she has done for the American multinational news-based pay TV network CNN, also for having co-hosted the NBC show “Weekend Today” between 2012 and 2016.

Early life and education

Erica was raised in Clinton alongside her younger sister, by their father Steven Holmes Hill and mother Cheryl; not a lot is known about Erica’s family, as she respects their privacy, but it’s said that her father was a high school teacher, and that her mother was a real estate agent.

Erica became interested in journalism at an early age, mostly because she spent an hour nearly every day watching news on TV with her father. She was interested in sports while attending a local high school, and played soccer for the school team, while Erica also enjoyed practicing dancing, and acting with the school’s drama club.

Upon matriculating in 1994, she enrolled at Boston University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1998; during her four years at college, Erica learned to speak French, and was a member of the sorority Alpha Epsilon Phi.

Career as a journalist

Erica launched her career in 1998, when she joined the online news show “PC Week Radio” as their production assistant, while simultaneously working at Software Publishers Association Europe, as a conference co-ordinator.

Between 2000 and 2003, Erica was employed at the now-defunct 24-hour cable and satellite channel TechTV; she was their reporter for her first year there, and was then promoted to being their correspondent and co-anchor. The most notable story which Erica had covered while at TechTV was the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks.

She joined CNN’s cable news channel Headline News in January 2003, as a general news anchor for multiple of their shows. The following year saw her become a national correspondent for CNN Newsource, and in 2005 and 2006, Erica co-hosted the show “Prime News Tonight”. From 2006 to 2008, she was the anchor of the show “Prime News”, and in February 2008 became the full-time member of the news show “Anderson Cooper 360°”. She co-anchored the show “CNN Tonight” between November 2009 and January 2010.

Beginning on 22 September 2008, Erica became the co-anchor of CBS’ “The Early Show”, but quit CNN in January 2010, so that she could focus on working at CBS News.

On 13 January 2010, she became the host of the weekly edition of “The Early Show”, and in the summer of the same year, she anchored the network’s flagship show “CBS Evening News” while its original anchor Katie Couric was away. Between September and November 2012, she was a special correspondent for CBS News, contributing to nearly all of the CBS shows, but didn’t actually appear on-air during these three months.

On 3 November 2012, Erica became a national correspondent for NBC News, and started co-anchoring their show “Weekend Today”; she held the job for four years, until revealing on 3 April 2016 that she was leaving the show, because she wanted to spend more time with her family. She has since still been reporting daily news on both NBC Nightly News and MSNBC.

On 6 June 2016, Erica revealed that she was returning to CNN’s Headline News, because she was invited to anchor their daytime news show “On the Story with Erica Hill”.

She returned full-time to CNN as their national correspondent and lead fill-in anchor on 19 April 2018, and so left “On the Story with Erica Hill”.

Presence on social media networks

Erica seems to be enjoying the attention which she’s receiving from her close to 50,000 followers on Instagram; she’s uploaded nearly 800 pictures onto the network, most of which have been taken during her everyday life.

She launched her Twitter account in February 2009, and has since tweeted close to 15,000 times, mostly breaking various news to her fans.

She also has a Facebook page, which is today followed by more than 100,000 people – Erica’s most recent update was on 27 January 2020.

Love life and husband

Erica prefers to keep the details of her love life to herself, but has still allowed her fans to have a glimpse into it. She married David Yount on 15 October 2005, in a large ceremony attended by many of their friends and family members; David’s a lawyer and businessman, who’s probably known best for being the founder and CEO of LicenseLogix.

Erica gave birth to Weston Robert Yount on 25 November 2006, and their second son Sawyer Steven Yount followed on 23 March 2010; she and David are keeping their boys away from the media’s attention.

Erica hasn’t spoken of any other men whom she has perhaps been with, so as of April 2022, she’s married to David Yount and they have two sons together.

Hobbies and other interests

Erica’s favorite season is summer, mostly because she enjoys sun tanning at the beach, and swimming in the ocean.

She’s into travelling, and has been all around the world for both work and pleasure; when vacationing, Erica likes to stay in natural locations, especially at foreign national parks.

She’s physically quite active and has multiple training sessions at the gym every week, thus her slim figure; she’s also following a strict diet, and avoids eating fast food and sweets.

Erica’s a fan of pop music, and her favorite performers are Lay Gaga and Ed Sheeran.

She likes to watch Hollywood movies in her spare time, especially those starring Tom Hanks, such as “Catch Me If You Can”, “Saving Private Ryan” and “You’ve Got Mail”.

Age, height and net worth

Erica’s age is 45. She has long brown hair and brown eyes, her height is 5ft 6ins (1.65m) and she weighs around 120lbs (55kgs).

As of April 2022, Erica’s net worth stands at more than $6 million.
